BREAKING: Saudi Defense Ministry says its air defenses intercepted and destroyed several drones over the past hours that tried to hit oil facilities in the Eastern Province and Riyadh.

If that didn't happen in the last war, when Iran was launching an average of 40 ballistic missiles per day for weeks, how do you expect to do it now, especially after massively depleting your JASSM stockpile?

People need to stay grounded in reality. There's a reason Trump ended the campaign two days ago instead of continuing it: it simply wasn't sustainable. You can't keep pounding Iran indefinitely while seeing no meaningful results.

Iran isn't winning or losing. It's simply forcing the United States to burn through its munitions. The targeted bases are still operational, damaged entrances can be repaired within hours, and after 40 days of fighting, they destroyed only around three launchers (documented). Iranian launchers are also relatively easy to build since they rely on hydraulic systems. On top of that, no actual evidence has been presented showing that Iran's ballistic missile production was significantly degraded. In fact, both Iranian officials and U.S. media have since reported that production not only continues but has accelerated since the war.

Meanwhile, according to an analysis by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the United States expended between 3,710 and 4,510 key precision-guided munitions during the Iran War, equivalent to roughly 31–38% of its estimated pre-war stockpile.

Air defense interceptors saw the steepest depletion, with an estimated 190–290 of 360 THAAD interceptors expended (up to 80%), 130–250 of 410 SM-3 interceptors (more than half), and 1,060–1,430 of 2,330 Patriot interceptors (up to 61%).

Long-range strike weapons were also heavily consumed. The analysis estimates the U.S. fired more than 1,000 Tomahawk cruise missiles, over 1,100 JASSM air-launched cruise missiles, and 40–70 of its estimated 90 Precision Strike Missiles (PrSMs), leaving the relatively new missile with a significantly reduced inventory.

Replenishing some of the most heavily used weapons could take years.

No matter how much damage is inflicted on Iranian infrastructure, whether civilian or military, repairs are relatively quick and inexpensive. If this continues, the situation could eventually shift, because the day Iran fields a capable air force, the United States and Israel won't be able to operate as freely as they do today.

During the last conflict, IRGC Aerospace Force missile units had enough freedom of action to carry out what was effectively a counter-force campaign against high-value U.S. targets at ranges exceeding 1,000 km.

The munitions issue isn’t new. It was already evident during last summer’s war, particularly with THAAD and Arrow interceptors being depleted.

These leaks to Axios and other outlets, just as Trump backs off again, feel more like a convenient explanation than the real reason.

This round of fighting was arguably even less “effective” than the last.

U.S. air superiority appeared more constrained, Iran was moving launchers more freely and launching missiles even in broad daylight (it doesn’t seem many of its launchers were even hit this time), and it continued operations even in Sirik right next to Strait of Hormuz despite repeated U.S. strikes.

The fundamental problem remains the same: Trump still has no viable military path to achieve his (incoherent) objectives.

He was drawn into this war by his own hubris and by an Israeli influence campaign built on repeatedly overselling what military force could achieve while downplaying its costs and risks.
