This is a sport. There is an entry fee. There are trophies. Families bring lawn chairs.

The rule is that you must hit someone every sixty seconds. If you do not hit someone, you are disqualified for cowardice. That is the actual reason. There is a rule against not crashing.

The cars are painted with numbers and names and messages. One said IN MEMORY OF GRANDPA. It was driven backwards into another car at full speed within the first minute.

I asked a man in the pit crew why they drive backwards.

He said, "Protects the engine."

The strategy is to destroy your car with the part of it that is least important, which is the entire back half, which contains nothing, which is why it is aimed at everything.

I asked how long it takes to prepare a car.

"Two, three months."

Two to three months of work. To be destroyed in eleven minutes. In front of your family. On purpose.

I asked what happens to the winner's car.

"Same as the rest."

The winner's car is also destroyed. The winner is simply the car that is destroyed last. There is no surviving. There is only the order.

A woman near me was cheering for car 44. I asked if it was her husband.

She said, "My daughter."

Car 44 was driven by a nineteen-year-old woman who reversed into a station wagon so hard that both hoods opened simultaneously, like two books.

Car 44 lost.

Car 44's engine caught fire and a man in a fire suit walked over calmly and put it out and then gave her a thumbs up while she climbed out.

She was laughing. She was laughing so hard she could not stand up straight.

Her mother said, "She'll build another one."

Of course she will.

I asked the mother what her daughter does for a living.

She said, "She's a nurse."

Somewhere in Indiana there is a nurse who spends her winters rebuilding a car specifically so she can destroy it in front of her mother in a mud pit in August.

I have no framework for this.

I have decided I do not need one.

She is going again in June.

So am I.

Guys I think I found out a way to get rid of racism for good.

My idea is to put all of the Japanese people in one place, all of the Indian people in another place, all of the Irish people in another place, all of the French people in another place etc.

That way there would only be one race in each area leaving nobody with the opportunity to be racist.

We can then call these zones something like 'countries' or 'nations' and give them corresponding names like Irish-land and Japanese-land.
