Congrats HAKI Africa @10
Today, I joined partners, civil society actors, and community leaders at the 10-year anniversary of HAKI Africa to reflect on the progress made in advancing human rights, accountability, and social justice across our region.
For how long will we as Kenyans continue to tolerate this “official goonism” that we keep witnessing time and time again?
What has been witnessed this whole week and especially today in Kitale and Kikuyu is inexcusable.
Where is @PoliceKE? Where is @ipoa We have sublet our security to goons. Shame!
Kenyans, wake up! Wake up Kenyans! Arise!
Billions have been lost in the fuel scandal and we are not angry or furious?
A cabinet secretary confesses to not knowing what is happening in his Ministry that led to the loss of billions and he remains in office?
Why? How? @OpiyoWandayi must go. Enough is enough already.
In case you missed it yesterday in the Star newspaper, here’s my column on why civil society and social media influencers must keep doing what they’re doing to stand together against bad governance and dictatorship in East Africa.
Today, our Rapid Response Officer, Francis Auma, stood shoulder to shoulder with our colleagues from @HakiAfrica and the people of Lamu in a peaceful protest against #EnforcedDisappearances. Three people have gone missing. Three families are living a nightmare.

Journalists in Mombasa held a peaceful march on Monday from Moi Avenue to the Little Theater Club to commemorate the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists.
The procession brought together members of the media, Mombasa Senator Mohammed Faki, County Executive Committee Member for Lands Hussein Mohammed, and Human Rights Activist Francis Auma from Muslims for Human Rights (MUHURI), in a show of solidarity to honor journalists and condemn attacks against them.
Senator Faki lauded journalists for their crucial role in informing the public, urging them to continue reporting community issues with courage and integrity.
“Without journalists, we would be unaware of the news. Thanks to them, citizens remain informed about societal happenings. May their valuable contributions be acknowledged,” he said.

What are Tanzanian police officers, the so called Usalama wa Taifa, doing on the Kenyan side of the border arresting Kenyan journalists?
Journalist Shoka Juma of Nyota Tv has been arrested at the Kenyan side of the Lunga Lunga border and is currently being held by Tanzanian security officers.

The Coast man who once caned Raila came to our office seeking forgiveness. Our Rapid Response team, led by Francis Auma, stepped in: we facilitated contact, supported the withdrawal of the case, and helped secure his release from police custody in Kwale.

The last time I was with Baba was in early June last year when I invited him as the chief guest at a Pan African conference that @VOCALAfrica_ was hosting.
In the few opportunities I got to interact with Baba, we always discussed the state of human rights in the country and what we should do to enhance social justice.
He would remind me that during their days, it was much tougher to fight for rights. He would tell us not to give up but to ensure we stay the course.
Baba always encouraged all to keep fighting proudly and never to be intimidated or feel threatened by the state. He is gone but certainly not forgotten.
Too many Kenyans chasing better opportunities abroad end up trapped in cycles of exploitation and abuse.
MUHURI’s Francis Auma sheds light on the deceptive recruitment practices pushing our workers into harm’s way, and what must change.

What began as a security measure has become a long, punishing curfew, stripping residents of their freedom and dignity.
MUHURI and partners are saying enough is enough. Lift the restrictions. End the intimidation. Let Lamu breathe again.

For how long will Lamu remain under siege?
Every night for more than a decade, the Lamu Highway has been turned into a no-go zone as the police erected roadblocks, which have continuously disrupted lives, and destroyed livelihoods.
