"Where we're running into capacity issues is no longer equipment it's people power," Dr. Gerald Da Roza, the head of medicine at Royal Columbian Hospital says we’ve reached a critical moment in B.C. hospitals. @CityNewsVAN@NEWS1130
It’s many patients in that 20 to 50 year old group. Most do not seem to have co morbidities. This will go very badly if people don’t wise up. Don’t travel right now. At this pace of admissions our covid unit will be over capacity before Tuesday.
BC we have a problem. The hospitals are much busier last 72 hours. Significant increase in COVID cases especially in younger people who are coming in around day 10 from initial disease onset. Presenting really sick. Needing 100% oxygen to stay alive teetering on intubation sick.
This is the story (shared with permission) of a patient in her 40s with #COVID we just intubated.
If @ongov provided essential workers with better protection, she would be at home with her family.

@Johnny603767082 @lscorpio99@ChadHarrisTV@NEWS1130@CityNewsVAN Highly recommend to look @ term "happy hypoxia covid", & https://t.co/rxqTNuXfvP
To see fraction of what body goes through with covid
@Johnny603767082 @lscorpio99@ChadHarrisTV@NEWS1130@CityNewsVAN Lastly about morbidity, yes younger ppl don't die as often from covid but they will end up with lasting side effect. We might not see it now since the body is young and can compensate but when these ppl get older then we would have a group of ppl who would burden health system.
@Johnny603767082 @lscorpio99@ChadHarrisTV@NEWS1130@CityNewsVAN and with ur comment about T cell immune response intact, what type of T cells are you referring to? What do u mean by being intact? If u are talking about T memory cells, there are emerging research that shows especially with Brazilian variant the memory cells can't respond
@Johnny603767082 @lscorpio99@ChadHarrisTV@NEWS1130@CityNewsVAN I don't know your source about the +4000 covid variants, but generally not all variants can be problematic. For now there are UK, Brazilian, and South African variants that are worrisome b.c. they are more infectious and deadly in case of Brazilian one
@Johnny603767082 @lscorpio99@ChadHarrisTV@NEWS1130@CityNewsVAN Also if the virus is more infectious more ppl will get sick and that cause hospitals to be overwhelmed. So ppl might die because there are not enough health care professionals to take care of them! (There are still ppl with other health issues that need medical attention)
@Johnny603767082 @lscorpio99@ChadHarrisTV@NEWS1130@CityNewsVAN We don't know the scope of disease manifestation with variants because it is too early to know. Research takes time. But so far we know that for example Brazilian variant is both more infectious and deadly (look @ hospitalization and death rate in Brazil)
@Johnny603767082 @lscorpio99@ChadHarrisTV@NEWS1130@CityNewsVAN There is no fear. Highlighting scientific facts doesn't mean fear! Yes viruses do mutate and as they replicate more there is higher chance of mutations. The issue is with mutations (b.c we don't have treatment) vaccine are not as effective.
