I will never understand the people who picked a ColdCard over a Trezor or a Ledger…wallets with history and a reputation to uphold. Hundreds if not thousands of the smartest people working there. And some went and bought a ColdCard? How? Why? It looks and feels plasticky and cheap, like a Casio calculator from the 90’s. It’s run by a tiny team of (now confirmed) incompetent morons. It blows my mind and it breaks my heart for everyone affected 💔 Stick to basics, always🙏🏻🙏🏻

To reach Monaco levels of security Gibraltar would need to more than double the size of its police force and install 350 more CCTV cameras based on statistical data. But I have faith in the government and I believe that the political will is there. But like I said, only time will tell.

It’s actually quite simple. Gibraltar’s land border has always acted as a physical layer of control. Whether you call it a border, a checkpoint or a filter, it was an additional safeguard between Gibraltar and the rest of the Schengen area.

Many European countries are now debating stronger border controls after years of experiencing the unintended and catastrophic consequences of more open movement. Gibraltar has chosen to move in the opposite direction, largely on the promise of greater trade and economic benefits. I hope that proves to be the right decision. I genuinely do. But if it comes at the expense of the security, order and quality of life that made Gibraltar unique, then I believe it will have been a mistake.

As for what Gibraltar should have done instead: I would have preferred preserving robust border controls while negotiating practical measures to facilitate trade and legitimate cross-border travel. Security and prosperity are not mutually exclusive. I may be wrong. Time will tell. But raising concerns before the consequences become irreversible is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

Hi Tony. You seem to have concluded that I came to Gibraltar solely for CAT2 benefits. That’s quite an assumption.
I chose Gibraltar because I genuinely fell in love with it: its safety, sense of community, efficient banking, wonderful climate and overall quality of life. If tax advantages had been my only motivation, I could just as easily have chosen Monaco, Andorra or several other jurisdictions.
As someone who has chosen to make Gibraltar my home, I believe I’m entitled to express concern when I think policies could affect the very qualities that attracted me here. You may disagree with my assessment of the treaty, and that’s perfectly fair, but dismissing my opinion by reducing me to “someone who came for CAT2” misses the point entirely. Let’s see how things evolve, I hope my assessment is wrong, only time will tell.
