Nigeria's FX Reserves Explode to $50.11bn – Highest in 17 Years, Tinubu Inherited Under $4bn Shambles
Nigeria's foreign exchange reserves have hit a staggering 4 billion shambles that President Bola Tinubu inherited when he took office.
The reserves were in ruins. The economy was on life support. Currency speculators were having a field day. But Tinubu took the tough decisions that previous administrations avoided – unifying exchange rates, tightening monetary controls, and killing the arbitrage racket that bled the economy dry.
Today, the Central Bank of Nigeria has real firepower to defend the naira. The reserves haven't been this strong since 2009, and the numbers are climbing.
From less than $4 billion to over $50 billion. That is not a miracle. That is leadership. That is what happens when a president refuses to manage decline and instead chooses to rebuild.
For those who said Tinubu would crash the economy, the numbers are speaking louder than insults. $50.11 billion and counting.

Leveraging on the stable macroevomomic imdices, What policies and program initiatives must Federal & State Governments execute to enable similar significant improvements in microeconomic indices to improve living conditions of Nigerians??

COAS TASKS MEDIA TO DOMINATE INFORMATION SPACE, COUNTER FAKE NEWS…Declares Open DAPR Combined First and Second Quarter Media Workshop 2026
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged media professionals to take a leading role in countering misinformation and fake news, emphasizing that dominance of the information space is critical to strengthening national security and achieving operational success.
The COAS gave the charge on Tuesday, 9 June 2026 at the opening ceremony of the Directorate of Army Public Relations (DAPR) Combined First and Second Quarter Media Workshop 2026, held at the Army War College Nigeria.
He described strategic communication as a vital force multiplier in modern military operations, noting that effective media integration is indispensable to joint and multi-agency operational success. According to him, in today’s complex information environment, where perception often shapes reality, the media remains a key partner in shaping narratives, building public confidence and denying adversaries the opportunity to exploit information gaps.
Represented by the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs (Army), Major General Musa Etsu-Ndagi, the COAS stressed that sustained media engagement and public support are now strategic imperatives across all theatres of operation. He added that transparent and proactive communication enhances credibility, fosters trust and reinforces the overall national security framework.
Addressing the theme, “Media Integration as a Force Multiplier for Joint and Multi-Agency Operational Success,” the COAS described the workshop as timely and forward-looking. He noted that it provides a critical platform for stakeholders to share ideas, adopt global best practices in conflict-sensitive reporting and develop coordinated strategies to counter misinformation and disinformation.
Lieutenant General Shaibu further highlighted the significant operational gains recorded by the Nigerian Army through enhanced inter-agency collaboration, intelligence sharing and unified planning. He emphasized that these successes must be effectively communicated to the public to sustain confidence and prevent adversaries from distorting operational realities.
The Army Chief reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Army to defending Nigeria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and constitutional order. He commended the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, for her leadership in organizing the workshop and advancing the strategic communication capabilities of the Nigerian Army.
The COAS also expressed profound appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his sustained support and strategic guidance towards enhancing the operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces.
Earlier in her welcome remarks, the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, highlighted the importance of the workshop in addressing Nigeria’s evolving security landscape. She noted that contemporary threats now extend beyond the battlefield into the information domain, where fake news, misinformation, disinformation and Artificial Intelligence-generated content pose serious risks to national security.
She emphasized that collaboration between the military and the media is essential to ensuring accurate information dissemination, strengthening national cohesion and preventing hostile actors from exploiting the information space for destabilizing purposes.
Colonel Anele expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu for his visionary leadership and continued investment in personnel development, modernization and strategic communication, which have positioned the Nigerian Army to effectively respond to both current and emerging security challenges.

One uncomfortable truth about the FCT:
when Abuja borrows, it isn't playing by the same rules as the states.
While governors must repay loans from their states' revenues, the FCT enjoys a unique advantage😆🤷...the full weight of the FG stands behind it.
Abuja isn't just another territory. It is the seat of power. And when the debt bill arrives, the Presidency is never too far from the table.

AIR COMPONENT OF OPERATION HADIN KAI NEUTRALISES TERRORISTS, DESTROYS LOGISTICS VEHICLE IN BORNO STATE
The Air Component of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI has recorded another major operational breakthrough in its sustained offensive against Boko Haram terrorists, delivering a decisive precision strike on identified terrorist elements in the Cross Kauwa – Ali Sherifti general area of Borno State during the early hours of 7 June 2026. The intelligence-driven operation resulted in the neutralisation of several terrorists and the destruction of a logistics vehicle concealed under dense foliage, further degrading the insurgents' operational and logistical capabilities while reinforcing ongoing efforts to deny terrorist groups freedom of action and restore enduring peace and security across the North East.
The successful operation was executed following credible intelligence and subsequent tasking to conduct a follow-up air interdiction mission on identified terrorist activities within the area. During aerial surveillance, the air crew detected and tracked a group of terrorists concealed under trees, while another group was observed in proximity to a vehicle hidden beneath thick foliage. Acting on positive identification, the aircraft conducted a precision strike on the first target, effectively neutralising eight terrorists.
Subsequent Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) revealed additional terrorist elements attempting to flee the area. A follow-on strike was immediately executed against the fleeing terrorists and the concealed vehicle being used for logistical support. The strike resulted in the elimination of the terrorists and the complete destruction of the vehicle, which was observed engulfed in flames. Further assessment confirmed the absence of any surviving terrorist movement within the target area.
This successful operation highlights the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Army to dismantling terrorist networks, denying insurgents freedom of action, and destroying their logistics infrastructure. The Armed Forces of Nigeria, in synergy with other security agencies and stakeholders, will continue to sustain aggressive operations aimed at restoring lasting peace, security and stability across the North East region and the country at large.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have recovered motorcycles, weapons and ammunition during a fighting patrol conducted along the escape route of ISWAP terrorists following an attack on a military formation in Borno State.
Military sources said the operation was carried out by troops of the 162 Amphibious Battalion after terrorists attacked the battalion’s location at Mandaragirau on June 6.
According to the sources, the troops launched an exploitation and fighting patrol at about 10:45 a.m. in pursuit of the fleeing insurgents.
The sources said the patrol focused on routes believed to have been used by the terrorists during their withdrawal from the area.
During the operation, troops recovered seven motorcycles suspected to have been used by the terrorists for movement and logistics.
The troops also recovered one PKT machine gun, 60 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammunition, 1,010 rounds of QJC ammunition, as well as a quantity of QJC ammunition links.
“The recoveries were made during extensive exploitation of the terrorists’ withdrawal routes following the attack on the battalion position,” a military source said.
The source added that troops were continuing reorganisation and consolidation efforts in the area, while further details of the operation were being compiled.
The recovery is seen as a significant setback to the terrorists, depriving them of mobility assets and firepower used in carrying out attacks against security forces and civilian targets.
Military authorities said troops remained committed to sustaining offensive operations against insurgent elements across the North-East theatre.
