Honored to be joined by HM Queen Mathilde of Belgium today. Her dedication and commitment to the fight against hunger sets a leading example for states coming together in collective action.
@MonarchieBe
🗣️ “Hunger is not merely a humanitarian challenge, it is a profound test of our collective humanity, our solidarity and our willingness to uphold our shared responsibilities”
Powerful words from Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of Belgium @MonarchieBe at our #UNGA81 side event.
⚖️ Belgium condemns all sanctions targeting the International Criminal Court, its officials and those cooperating with it. The measures undermine the Court’s independence and impartiality and weaken the global fight against impunity. The #ICC must be free to fulfil its mandate without intimidation or political pressure. This is not about defending national sovereignty. On the contrary, sovereignty also carries the responsibility to abide by the fundamental principles of international law.
Belgium will always stand with the victims in their pursuit of justice. We also stand in solidarity with the Court’s staff and the many civil society organisations working tirelessly to advance accountability, and will continue to do its part, including by advocating for the activation of the Blocking Statute.
@BelgiumMFA
👏 Belgium stands with @ifrc, @ICRC and National societies worldwide.
On #RedCrossDay and Red Crescent Day, we commend the work & thank all #volunteers and staff supporting people affected by disaster, armed conflict, health and social problems, often risking their own safety.
🇧🇪 Yesterday at the UNSC Arria-Formula Meeting, Belgium reaffirmed its strong commitment to the protection of humanitarian and medical personnel, 10 years after UNSC Resolution 2286 was adopted.
Medical facilities must remain safe spaces at all times.
🇱🇧 (EN/FR/NL) I came to Beirut today to show our full support to the Lebanese authorities and to express our deep solidarity with the families affected by the violent conflict opposing Israel to Hezbollah. Just before I was commending President Aoun for offering to open official negotiations with Israel towards a ceasefire, Israel launched, with no previous warning, one of the most massive strikes since the beginning of the hostilities, allegedly causing hundreds of civilian victims. We were at the embassy with my delegation, just a few hundred metres from where the missiles struck. This must stop. The ceasefire between the US, Israel and Iran must include Lebanon!
——

(EN/FR/NL) 🇺🇳 Good to sit down with Tom Fletcher @UNReliefChief this morning in Brussels. In times like these, regular contact between donors and humanitarian leaders is crucial.
The reality is stark. Humanitarian needs are rising while funding is shrinking. Aid workers are being attacked at unprecedented rates. And the world's attention is stretched thin across too many crises at once.
Belgium will not look away. Humanitarian aid is lives saved every single day. That is why we back our new Belgian humanitarian strategy with flexible, predictable funding over several years. Because aid organisations on the ground need to plan, not just react.
We discussed our recent additional support for Lebanon. But I also raised the many forgotten crises that no longer make the headlines but where people suffer just the same. Sudan, the Sahel, the Great Lakes, Myanmar, etc. The cameras may have moved on, but the needs have not.
In a world where the instinct is to turn inward, Belgium chooses to stay engaged.
Thank you, Tom, for your leadership. The work your teams do, often at great personal risk, deserves far more recognition than it gets.

Humanitaire hulp betekent elke dag weer levens redden.
@BelgiumMFA
Yesterday, Belgium 🇧🇪 hosted a humanitarian briefing with Robert Turner, Chief of @UNMigration in Ukraine, on the humanitarian situation in the country.
The meeting brought together a broad, cross-regional group of Member States 🇺🇳.
🇸🇩 Together with 30 Foreign Ministers, I’m calling for an immediate end to the violence in Sudan.
Sudan faces the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. Drone attacks kill civilians. Health facilities are destroyed. Food convoys are targeted. Humanitarian workers die trying to help.
Famine is confirmed. Sexual violence is rampant. 100,000 people have been displaced in recent months in Kordofan alone.
Intentional attacks against humanitarian personnel may amount to war crimes.
We urgently call on the Rapid Support Forces, the Sudanese Armed Forces, and all militias to cease hostilities immediately. Civilians must be protected. Humanitarian access must be granted. Those responsible for violations against women and children must face justice.
Sudan cannot be forgotten. We stand with its people.

❗️Belgium has NOT signed the Charter of the Board of Peace. This announcement is incorrect.
We wish for a common and coordinated European response. As many European countries, we have reservations to the proposal.
@BelgiumMFA
We mark 20 years of critical humanitarian action of the Central Emergency Respond Fund @UNCERF to provide a fast, timely & effective response when #humanitarian crises hit
🇧🇪 is a proud donor of @UNCERF, contributing a combined 37 million € in 2025 & 2026.

How many more of the most innocent among us must grow up in fear before the world acts? #UNGA80
As a father, I cannot ignore the pain of parents who cannot protect their children in Gaza and the West Bank. This suffering is not inevitable. It is the result of choices. And choices can change.
That is why Belgium repeats its call. Protect children. Respect international humanitarian law. Guarantee safe and unimpeded humanitarian access.
War has rules. And those rules begin with humanity. To ignore them is not only to break the law, it is to betray who we are.
Belgium will continue to support those working for Palestinian children and their families, and we will keep pushing at every diplomatic forum to place children at the very heart of our response.
What excuse do we have not to act?
@BelgiumMFA

This #WorldRefugeeDay our message to over 122 million people forced to flee war, conflict or persecution is: “We see you. You are not forgotten. You are not alone."
Belgium stands firmly in support of the @IntlCrimCourt (ICC).
In light of recent US sanctions targeting the ICC, Belgium, together with Slovenia, will call for the European Union’s blocking statute to be invoked.
While this would be the first time the blocking statute is applied in defense of the ICC, Belgium believes it is essential to protect the Court’s independence and its crucial role in delivering justice for the gravest crimes.
Standing with the ICC means standing with the rule of law. Belgium will remain a steadfast supporter of the Court and its mission.
@BelgiumMFA
No bread, no fuel, no aid. #Gaza is being starved.
Over 100 children killed or injured daily. Humanitarians targeted. It’s a failure of our humanity.
Ceasefire, access, release of hostages, accountability now.
