I’m planing to mostly stop using this site.
Going forward, my tech-nerd / genomics content will be at https://t.co/WwJvsQvGtl, and local politics will be at https://t.co/WA7M2sHD5H.
I’ve been all in on AI since we were calling it big data and deep learning.
And.
We should treat these repeated offers to record us 24/7, read our mail, and curate our relationships as what they are:
Fucking creepy stalker crap.

I have disabled Apple’s Siri on every OS version of every device I have ever owned.
I do this because the benefits of Siri (to me) are minimal and the likelihood of information leakage and dumb errors is large.
I hope the new apple AI features can also be disabled.

I have a lot of threads of conversation in my life. Contractors, clients, neighbors, friends … I do -not- trust a transnational megacorp to put that all in the AI blender and treat the result with the care it deserves.
Hell no.

@lh3lh3 I think it’s worse than that. You stored ingredients at the restaurant, probably thinking you would cook and eat there. When you changed your mind and decided to cook at home instead, they charged you three months rent to get your own ingredients back.
Removing the metaphor:
Sensible technology architectures need to be able to accommodate both cloud and locally owned resources without undue disruption or replanning.
Use cloud for exploration and profiling and consider buying metal for steady state needs.
Wrapping up my admittedly strained metaphor, when the extended #AI family shows up hungry for dinner, that is not the time to start upgrading the single burner stove that does fine for most of your dinners at home.
Just take them to a restaurant.
I posted the picture below on LinkedIn, with the text: "A core part of my hashtag#AI strategy is to always lift with the knees, never with the back"

I couldn't help but click it.
It said that I was being metaphorical ... somehow referring to the importance of sound foundational techniques.
Reader, I was not being metaphorical. That box is more than 300 pounds.
