This past weekend I had the chance to show my 7 year old daughter an up close look at the sport that shaped me into the person I am today. Wrestling.

Meli and I flew to Cleveland for @NCAAWrestling Championships.

She loved it. I loved that she loved it. She had 6 of the 10 national champions walk over and sign her hat and then the GOAT himself @caelsanderson made her day with an autograph.

She had countless parents and fans stop her and tell her how much they liked her outfit and make her feel really cool and welcomed at what one would think, may not be the scene for a 7 year old blonde haired girl with a shiny jacket and hot pink pants.

The icing on the cake though happened between sessions. We met Ryan. Ryan is an executive with @AdidasWrestling that spent more than 30 minutes talking to my daughter Meli and I. Ryan was one of those people you meet and just know immediately is a good person.

He ended up telling Meli that he wanted to buy her first pair of wrestling shoes and asked if he could get my address to ship them to her.

I walked in the door from work tonight and my wife handed me two boxes.

Two pairs of wrestling shoes for Meli to start her new wrestling career, a gym bag, headgear, team USA singlet, a hoodie, shirt, and the icing on the cake = a signed pair of @magicman_osu signed shoes.

Meli had tiers in her eyes, and I almost cried seeing her reaction.

We live in a time where people seem to be very disconnected. A time where parents worry a lot about the world their kids are growing up in.

Getting a chance to implant myself and my daughter back into the wrestling community for a few days, reminded me of how many cool people there are in the world. Watching those young men put it all on the line and manage win and lose with grace, alone, just makes you a better person. Meli learned a lot of life lessons just seeing that up close.

It reminded me how this sport builds character, grit, accountability, and so many important qualities that carry into life. It attracts and creates some of the best people you will ever meet.

Ryan - you went out of your way to make a 7 year old girl (Meli) feel extremely special. I will be forever grateful to you.

You also convinced me to get back involved in the sport that gave me so much. Thank you. I hope to pay it forward and someday make a kid feel the way you made my daughter feel this week.

There is no better community in the world than the wrestling community - thank you Ryan for the reminder.
