Radhya Al-Mutawakel, Chairperson of Mwatana for Human Rights, noted that the greatest harm to Yemen during the war years was the near-total collapse of the state and the shrinking of civil space that had existed before 2014. This space, she said, was the result of decades of struggle by Yemenis and not granted by anyone.

If you think the Houthis will care about destroying infrastructure or Yemeni lives, you're absolutely wrong.
However, in response to such attacks, the Houthis may use this as justification to recruit, mobilze & target infrastructure both within & outside #Yemen sooner or later.
Locals finding it quite difficult to put out the fuel fires in Hudaydah. Environmental impact and an already debilitated infrastructure aside, worth noting this is the main port through which most of the humanitarian aid - where over 80% of population are in need - comes through and was off limits in past via the Stockholm agreement. Mental and verbal gymnastics around the tit for tat strikes are quite fascinating as each side tries to push own narrative and justifications, but ultimately it's the average #Yemen-i Joe who will pay the price. And no, it will not deter the Houthis nor put a dint on their operations, quite the contrary actually - this just gave them the boost and cred they very much crave.
Repeated warnings of atrocities in #ElFasher from Sudanese & international civil society have been ignored. W/ the international community responding with little more than words of condemnation, here are concrete actions that can be taken: https://t.co/NigQ4v1YGX

The people of Iran, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen & Gaza do not want war with Israel and want no part in being used by a fetishized "resistance" axis that brings death & destruction. They all deserve better leaders & governments and want stability & peace. This must be contained now

Very dangerous, if unsurpring, turn by RSF allied fighters. When you aren't fighting for a principle or a cause but for power and money, you run the risk of fragmentation. Just ask the JPA signatories.
This is the kind of development #Sudan doesn't need. Ceasefire just got harder
"The documented incidents by Mwatana are illustrative of the ordeal that civilian women undergo at the hands of security forces in Marib, who exploit the dire wartime conditions to persecute and intimidate women and their families." Vice Chairperson of Mwatana @ralfaqih said,
Al-Faqih emphasized, "The detention facilities, managed by security agencies, continue to operate without proper oversight from the public prosecutor & the judiciary, creating an environment conducive to severe violations of women's rights..."

“Of more than 66,000 Afghans who have sought humanitarian parole since July 2021, fewer than 8,000 had their applications processed. The success rate was even narrower, with only 123 applications granted.” https://t.co/GDugdnpLiL

Afghans should not have to endure a traumatic and backlogged asylum process. Congress must live up to its solemn promise that #ThisIsHome and pass the #AfghanAdjustmentAct without delay or excuse.

The US has a moral obligation to allow #Afghans easier refuge in the US. We can do that with the Afghan Adjustment Act, bipartisan legislation that would:
✔️ Expand the Special Immigrant Visa program
Houthis trying to arrest union head in Sana'a, threatening teachers in Ibb as strike enters 3rd week. I've said it before & will say it again: In a context where everyone's paying attention to the guys with guns, the real heroes are ordinary people doing stuff like this everyday
Although important to note you can have Houthi-aligned tribesmen, or even Houthi-aligned tribal leaders (although tribes are not monoliths). But the Houthi family, and the project of Hashemite empowerment the Houthi movement represents, is outside of the framework of the tribe.
Important note! The whole thing about the Houthis is they occupy a position outside of the tribes in Yemen's tribal system, although some have tried to play up a general tribal connection to get support. Like it's a major part of explaining their rationale for existing.
