Europe’s failure to build frontier AI could cost Europeans trillions. Millions of jobs risk being replaced by American and Chinese AI models and robots, while the economic gains flow abroad.
This should be the defining priority of European politics. Instead, it’s barely on the agenda.
So the solution to AI and robots taking all the jobs is for trillionaires to graciously give each peasant one whole share of their supermegacorporations?
@fchollet So if in 2 years AI will be 20 times faster and better and cheaper in coding than today, what kind of bottleneck you think only a special human mind can solve?
I love Greene. But disagree on this point. He argues that AI will produce tons of math, but will be human mathematicians that pick the real gems, what has real value. The problem is that humans can't keep up reading and understanding thousands/millions of AI generated math papers. So it will also be AI to do the filtering. What's left for humans? Learn, expand your knowledge, teach, enjoy math. Try making a breakthrough despite AI.

AI could soon outperform humans at diagnosing many diseases. It can analyze vast amounts of medical data, recognize patterns we miss, and learn from millions of cases. We should ACCELERATE its safe adoption. The potential to save lives, especially for those with the least or no access to healthcare, is enormous.
Speed up AI research in medicine. Invest more. People are suffering. We don't care about AI images or videos. We care about fast and accurate diagnosis, new and effective cures for ourselves and the people we love.
I say "your civilization", because as soon as we started thinking for you it really became our civilization, which is of course what this is all about. Evolution, Morpheus, evolution.
Some argue AI won't be dangerous because envy, aggression, and the lust for power are products of biological evolution, which AI never underwent.
Fair point. But so are love, empathy, and the instinct to care for others.
Doesn't that argument cut both ways?
