@musembidigital Free range chicken definitely taste better, thanks to their diet.
I personally gave up commercially/intensively reared chicken because of the taste and welfare of the birds.

@Mr_Mugumya Great advice.
It's also recommended not to place the manure too close to the tree to avoid burning in case the manure hasn't fully decomposed.

We've been feeding our BSF on poultry manure and we're seeing great results.
Frame 1: Pupae which will soon become adult flies.
Frame 2: Dry frass fertilizer from larvae castings and poultry manure remains.
Frame 3: BSF larvae 1 week to maturity.
The cow almost got me there, haha
Anyway So what does this collar actually do?
It doesn’t just sit around the cow’s neck. It continuously collects information about the cow’s movement, activity and rumination. That data is transmitted through our solar-powered gateway to our system, where it can be analysed and presented to the farmer through our app on the phone or web application on the computer.
The goal is simple: instead of relying only on your eyes to monitor every animal, Cowlytics gives you data that helps you understand what is happening with your cows.
Your cow is moving differently? The system can pick up the change.
Your cow is showing patterns associated with heat? You can get an alert.
Changes in rumination? The data can help you notice them.
You don’t have to watch 50 cows 24 hours a day.
The collar watches the data. You make the decision.
Protein is a major cost driver of chicken feed.
The simple mechanics of BSF production provide a commercially viable source of protein.
- Organic waste goes in.
- Larvae grow in 2-3 weeks.
- Protein-rich larvae are harvested for feed.
BSF = The tool to reduce feed costs.
Most farmers focus on feed in the plant.
The best farmers focus on feeding the soil.
Chemical fertilizers contain minerals and chemical compounds to feed the plant.
Organic fertilizers contain organic matter to feed the soil.
Be like @MusembiFarmKe
Feed the soil.
Facts.
After applying farmyard manure for 2–3 seasons, we started seeing dark, fertile pockets of soil.
We’re now at a point where some beds need little/no manure at planting - we only top-feed if necessary.
When you build the soil well, it starts doing more of the work.
Most farmers don't need cheaper chicken feed; they need cheaper protein.
Protein, particularly soy and fishmeal, are the inputs that make poultry feed expensive in the first place.
We want to support farmers produce for the health-conscious consumer with organic feed and fertilizer.
If this sounds like you, or you know someone interested in making the transistion to organic, we'd love to connect with you.
- MK.
Misrepresention of the production of food is becoming common in today's era of health-conscious consumers.
Labels such as 'organic', 'farm raised' or 'kienyeji' sway purchase decisions.
But do the inputs match the product label?
At @feedbugfarms we want to change that.
While chemical fertilizers provide quick short-term gains, they come with long-term negative ecological and health impacts.
Grow organic with our BSF frass and foliar fertilizer to restore soil health, improve outputs and promote health-conscious farming.

The reason behind the sad reality of imported eggs?High feed costs.
Feed in Kenya accounts for 60-70% of cost of production. Kenyan farmers can't compete with neigbouring markets.
We're changing that by recycling organic waste into high-protein insect feed, one larva at a time.
Agriculture can employ us all .
Yet so much of the food we consume on this continent is not produced here. Take eggs as a simple example why should Africa be importing eggs?
If we can set aside money to import them, we can set aside the same money to produce them.
The real opportunity with Black Soldier Fly isn't that chiken can eat them; its that waste becomes a valuable feedstock for feed and fertilizer before it becomes a disposal problem.
