This world genuinely breaks my heart. It's so fucked up that people need to resort to stealing *food* – something necessary for survival – because they can't afford it/aren't getting the support they need. It's an awful and terrifying position to be in. I really feel for her. 😞

In January 2009, I got glandular fever. I never recovered.

In August 2019, after a decade of being put through hell and back just trying to get help, I was diagnosed with #MECFS (among others).

In 2009, I was 14. I will be 28 this year. I've been sick for half of my life.

And this applies to happy emotions too. Joy, excitement, passion, glee. So often, a feeling can never be truly, deeply, wholly and gloriously felt with a chronic illness, unless your body pays the price.

One chronic illness thing we don't talk about enough is how difficult it makes it to express your emotions. You could be feeling the deepest hurt, anger, grief or frustration but if you release it, if you cry or yell, it makes your symptoms worse. Feeling your feelings costs you.

Seriously, BC needs all the help it can get. Even when you finally do manage to get in to see a doctor at a walk-in, you usually have a maximum of five minutes and can only bring up one issue per visit. And good god damn luck getting a GP.

I cried one of the first times I went grocery shopping in Austria. It's just one big flurry of items being flung at warp speed, "ANDERE KASSA BITTE!", having to pack+pay at the same time, "Rechnung?", get out of the way, pack somewhere else.

Was a huge culture shock for me, tbh.

I wish some doctors considered how much effort it takes a chronically ill and/or disabled person to get ready for an appt. It can be so bad we show up tired, looking messy, maybe even have to reschedule or cancel. We still want & need care. We just have so many obstacles.
