@AlexGoldenNBA@Moobz1o1 People lack vision. I'm already seeing him grabbing rebounds and throwing outlets for Hali and Siakam in transition when I close my eyes.
Follow-up on this (and possibly the last time I will talk about this topic in this space);
I've kept MOST of my own opinions out of the original post but ppl love putting words in my mouth so I will speak for myself here.
AI is a tool, we've been using them for awhile now. If you google'd stuffs, you are already using it. Heck, this app is ran by AI algorithms. I'm NOT against AI as a tool.
The problem lies in Generative AI and its development. It is exploitative and predatory in how it trained on stolen artworks made by real artists. I am AGAINST genAI especially when it's being marketed as replacement for REAL human artists.
I made the original post in defense of Larian Studio because I believe that the announcement they made, were made with goodwill and an attempt at being transparent since they are using genAI, a tool with unethical development. (I believe many at Larian Studio voiced their concerns themselves)
The nuances here is outlined in my original post, explaining how pre-production mood boards are created and how "inconsequential" the process is in terms of intellectual properties transfer whereas artists at Larian are real and the final products will be their talents and efforts and NOT the genAI
You could say they are trying to use an evil tool in a good way which is more than any other studios have done who are PROBABLY all using the very same tools and have been been for awhile now with 0 transparency.
- As for my credentials, since a lot of people asked for it or claimed I'm just lying cos I don't ... make my own vtuber assets?
All I'll say is I don't draw anime styled art for a job, so I commissioned other AMAZING human artists for it (Go check them out if you aren't still seething over my take and associating my incredible art assets with me as a person)
My concept art works are borderline hyperrealism in style; I draw fictional anatomy (personal expertise), creature designs and body horror. I've been a part of multiple projects in the past 5 years; 2 major releases (One of which won awards), 3 minor projects (mobile games) and a dead mmo (whose devs actually replaced my work with genAI 2 years later and replaced my name in the credits)
You don't have to believe me, I'm just sharing my experiences on the internet. I will however, keep to my anonymity and keep my professional work life separated from my online persona as a silly Vtuber
Concept Artist here, the "AI hate" directed at Larian Studio is 100% ignorant and bad faith virtue-signaling.
Artists are NOT against AI usage as a tool, we're against Generative AI that was trained on real artworks and mass-produced "slops" that imitated our hard work and then marketed as our replacement.
In pre-production, the art team would grab random pics off the internet and other games to create a general mood board for aesthetics and "vibe" that fit the art direction (There are more nuances than this, I'm describing this in the most simplified way possible)
A mood board of a character may include several pictures of other videogames or anime shows, dozens of object with "texture references" for parts of their attire, multiple reference pictures of relevant objects such as animals or historical weapons or even other character artwork made for other games; ALL of which are randomly drawn from the internet and put together for the purpose of creating an overall aesthetic for a design that will become original in its own way inspired by its references and the artist's own creativity and originality to visualize it when they create the design by doing ART.
Larian Studio mentioned using AI to streamline this process; an actively menial labor of "looking for relavant and cool pics on the internet" in essence.
There is zero reason why AI speeding up this process is a bad thing; it is essentially the same as someone asking Grok for facts they could have spent a few hours reading through Wikipedia pages.
None of the pictures grabbed by either the AI or the art team in this process are being exploited for any monetary gain since they're simply inspiration and visual direction, this has been standard practice in the industry for decades.
@iiawko@M4MMOTH_tv@itsbearVT It do not limit good artists tho. The first reference is nothing more than getting a ideia out. Nobody is limited by a stick figure, why would they be limited by a automatic photo bash?
IA is shit for a lot of reasons, but this use is completely Fine.
