𝗙𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵.

The Covenant Estate Stack gives you a practical order for protecting the business, the people who depend on it, and the work you've spent years building.

Dying intestate is a business continuity failure.

Your family may know that you own a company. They may not know where the contracts are, which accounts receive customer payments, who can access the records, what debts are outstanding, or who should keep serving customers.

The business pauses while people search for answers. Staff lose direction. Customers lose confidence. Relatives make decisions without the information you assumed they had.

Build the stack in this order:

1. 𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙩 𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧

List what you own, what you owe, and where the records are kept. Include company shares, land, buildings, vehicles, bank accounts, mobile-money accounts, loans, contracts, intellectual property, and important digital accounts.

Add the name of the person responsible for each record. An inventory that nobody can locate is still a continuity gap.

2. 𝙒𝙞𝙡𝙡

Set out who should receive your personal assets and business interests, using the legal requirements that apply in your jurisdiction. Make sure the document is properly prepared, signed, witnessed, and stored where it can be found.

The will gives your intentions a legal structure. Your family should not have to reconstruct those intentions during grief.

3. 𝘾𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙮-𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙈𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙢

Write down the family, clan, marital, and community realities that may affect how your estate is understood or managed.

This is not a replacement for a will. It helps your lawyer and family see the practical context before conflict fills the gap between formal documents and lived reality.

4. 𝙇𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧

Write in your own voice. Explain what matters, why certain decisions were made, who should be contacted, and what you hope the family will protect.

The letter carries the explanation that legal documents usually cannot. It can also tell your team how you want customers, employees, suppliers, and partners treated.

5. 𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬 𝙍𝙝𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙢

Review the stack after every major change: marriage, separation, birth, death, acquisition, new debt, property purchase, business restructuring, or a significant change in ownership.

Put the review on your calendar. A document that matched your life five years ago may create confusion today.

For East African founders and SMB owners, this belongs beside your financial controls and operating procedures. Your business should be able to continue when you are unavailable, whether for a week, a year, or permanently.

Get professional legal and tax advice for your jurisdiction before signing anything. I'm putting my own Asset Register and review rhythm in place, then I'll help the founders I serve do the same.

Today at Nakasero, I met Mr. Aliko Dangote and we discussed the proposed East African regional refinery.

I informed him that from the very beginning, we have always opposed the export of raw materials without value addition. That is why Uganda delayed oil production because we insisted on first having a refinery. Without refining our oil, it would not make economic or strategic sense to simply export crude oil while others benefit from the finished products.

I, therefore, welcomed the idea of a bigger regional refinery because our objective is African integration and shared prosperity. We cannot continue operating as fragmented and weak markets. If East Africa works together, such projects become more viable and beneficial to our people.
Uganda is ready to support the regional refinery initiative while also continuing with the development of our own refinery in Hoima.
