@theladyfarmer Jo, I’m really sad to hear this and I would hate you to think that you’ve failed. Far from it, you’ve been badly let down but the Jo Franklin I know will bounce back stronger than ever.
@BridgemanTai@HasisD @HelenJackson0 @guardianeco@EnvAgency Apologies, there are people who don’t. Yes, you’re right, DEFRA listed a very small number of rivers as being eligible, I believe that has now been expanded. But the Barlings Eau hosted the SoS, Floods Minister and both Chairman & CX of EA and still missed the original cut.
@BridgemanTai@HasisD @HelenJackson0 @guardianeco@EnvAgency I use the term ‘main river’ as that is the term the EA use to classify watercourses that they assume a responsibility for. However that doesn’t mean they have to maintain them, merely that they have permissive powers to do so. Many would argue a lack of maintenance.
@HasisD @HelenJackson0 @BridgemanTai@guardianeco@EnvAgency The threat in the Lincolnshire Fens is from EA main river. They are raised embankment watercourses that carry water through the fen to sea. Internal Drainage Boards pump surface and ground water into the rivers to keep the land dry enough for farming and infrastructure.
@HelenJackson0 @BridgemanTai@HasisD@guardianeco@EnvAgency That is because DEFRA have only named 4 main rivers in Lincolnshire as eligible, the rivers Witham, Welland, Brant and Ancholme. A lot of flooding has come from the Barlings Eau which is EA main river and runs into the Witham but is ineligible.
