@NateSilver538 Could it be mostly behavioral? People taking more precautions such as masking and social distancing, as well as fewer susceptible people (immunity from infection/vaccination) contributing some.
@JessAStern@AcademicChatter@OpenAcademics I rarely do it often enough, but making solid chunks of time away from the internet work well for me. Like downloading papers, getting stuff I need from the internets, and then going to a place without wifi (or turning it off if you have willpower!) to read/write.
@joyofbats That's what I got it for originally! It's really really great for that! I tried it out for presentations and loved it for that! Like I can just visualize the passage of time, which makes me not anxious about how fast I'm going, and doesn't distract me either
@joyofbats Also, I started using a visual timer (it's called a Time Timer) when giving talks! There's a big red bar that gets smaller as time passes so you can pay attention to the passage of time without doing any mental math or getting interrupted by warnings
@joyofbats Totally! Though it makes me wish talk slots were longer in general, and that talks shouldn't be so packed together in general. Like 3-5 minute transition time between talks, and half hour breaks every hour and a half should be standard.
@joyofbats @annfro My dad who is not in academia had lifelong recurring nightmares (or stress dreams, nightmare sounds a little dramatic) of not being able to find the room of a final for a class he never attended!
Woohoo!!! #TeamSkyLion#TeamHoaryBat !!! Now I apologize for talking trash, I actually really like little brown bats (though they are hard to tell apart from Yuma), and I learned a lot about flying fox biogeography and like them too! All bats are good bats!

We have now come to the part of the competition where I take back all the bad things I said about the Livingstone's flying fox. It is not a boring bat (teensy bit maybe 😉).It is a very good bat and needs help, and I believe the world is a better place with them in it.

@batgirl_susan I'm just stating objective, scientific facts: Gravity is real, the earth is round, energy is neither lost or destroyed but stays constant, hoary bats are the best bat!
#TeamSkylion#TeamHoaryBat
@batgirl_susan@batgirl_susan I love nerd competitions! Learning so much! Very cool info about dispersal, I just did a lazy how far is Comoro from mainland search..
But also, flying foxes all look alike and hoary bats are objectively, scientifically, and factually the best bats! #TeamHoaryBat
@batgirl_susan Thanks! I learned last night that my meme is factually incorrect about that! (And also the hoary bat -> Ope'ape'a got to an island and became endangered too, so my premise was dumb too). But in the spirit of trash talking in service of the hoary bat I'm leaving it up!
@HonkIfUrHoary@DenverZoo I think North American! But maybe I should have waited for 45 minutes to say anything... Regardless, hoary bats are objectively the best and most superior bat! There has never been a more factual and scientifically based statement!
