6 October 1912 | A Polish man, Marian Binkowski, was born in Warta. He worked as a postman. In January 1943, he was arrested by the Germans for his involvement in the resistance movement and imprisoned in Łódź.
He was imprisoned in Auschwitz from 3 July 1943.
No. 127597.
In 1944, he was transferred to KL Buchenwald, where he was liberated.
For almost fifty years after liberation, he wrote down his memories. On one of the pages of his book The Town of Warta during the Second World War, he wrote:
“Memory! It is memory that binds today with yesterday, the present with the past. It is memory that connects people, families and generations. It links together the events that make up the history and identity of a nation.”
Marian Binkowski died in 1995.
