British diplomat and ambassador who's spent 30 years living in Africa, Afghanistan and Australia. Happiest exploring in a Land Rover with wife, Susie, and sons.
From Lusaka to Oxford University. My son & I have begun postgrad studies, me African Studies (of course), while Will’s reading Middle East and Arabic. We still both miss Zambia!
Thank you High Commissioner @ferguscd for you candid statement and those serious questions you have asked. Zambians must seriously reflect on the questions you have asked. Thank you for your service to the People of Zambia and for helping keeping the relations with UK warm!
As acting Minister of Foreign Affairs today i met @ferguscd British High Com.who called on me to bid farewell as his time comes to an end, i thankd him for services rendered to our country. UK remains 1 of Zambia’s important allies,We wish him all the best in his future endeavors
The biggest obstacle to impact investment reported by fund managers is finding the right investment opportunities. This is one of the reasons @PEPZambia is currently working with 20 #Zambian SMEs to help them become investment ready. @DfidZambia
My favourite task is meeting bright, talented Zambian @cheveningfco scholars as they depart for UK. Finally I’ve decided to join them by doing postgrad African Studies at @UniofOxford this Oct. Hence the newly acquired student beard!
Making new friends at @chipembele Mfuwe, #Zambia Learning to remove warthog ticks a valuable skill for any British High Commissioner. (By the way these are all totally wild animals who chose to say hello.)
@cleopas_sambo@ProjectTrustUK Sciences & maths (their A-levels & future degree subjects) plus bringing international perspectives to this remote rural Zambian school. Horizon broadening for volunteers & pupils alike.
These British 19 yr olds, Andrew & Jack, teaching at Mambwe Sec School nr Chipata. A 35 yr echo from my first stay in Africa, also aged 19, also teaching (in Kenya), also through excellent @ProjectTrustUK Made me feel v nostalgic!
Grateful to Her Honour the Vice President for meeting Head @DfidZambia & me. Over one million (& rising) Zambians seriously affected by food shortage. Lives are at stake.
The British government is urging Zambia to declare an emergency after the worst drought since 1981 leaves millions facing hunger https://t.co/VkCReI6lcN
Enjoyed meeting Former Acting President Guy Scott in London to discuss his new book, which I highly recommend. It’s fascinating on Guy’s chimbuya or “teasing cousinship” with Late President Sata who jokingly called Guy his mzungu chola...!
Kafue National Park fact-finding mission by EU ambassadors @IlaLodge meeting #Zambia DNPW officials, NGOs, game ranchers, lodge owners. Key theme: local communities must benefit from wildlife to conserve it. Exciting prospect @AfricanParks managing KNP.
Attending London gathering of UK ambassadors #FCOLeadershipConference addressed by Rory Stewart MP, Minister International Devt @UKaid, who visited Lusaka & Mumbwa in 2017 as Minister for Africa. Good having UK cabinet minister already familiar with #Zambia
Good to see #FIC explaining their mandate (inc. clear difference between Trend and Intelligence reports). 🇬🇧 uses case studies to show impact in its reporting, but easier as cases generally concluded more quickly. Suggests the challenge in 🇿🇲 is not FIC but further upstream?
A major development. Amos articulated international concerns to #Zambian Govt about e.g. corruption & economy. He understood importance of Zambia’s image overseas. Decisive action, now, on such issues would be reassuring to @UKinZambia
Livingstone museum - the oldest in the country! @PEPZambia is supporting the museum to become a financially self-sustaining institution that will ensure the long -term preservation of Zambia’s cultural and historical heritage. @UKinZambia
