A few points for commercial activists:

Lamu is the only county where licensed community harvesting of mangroves is permitted, yet illegal mangrove destruction has gone on for years with far less push back.

Lamu’s coral reefs and marine ecosystem have long been under pressure from unsustainable fishing, pollution and climate change.

If protecting the ecosystem is the priority, these threats deserve equal attention.

Rather than simply opposing the project, why not push Dangote to adopt a world class CSR and biodiversity restoration programme?

That could include mangrove restoration, coral reef conservation, marine monitoring, community conservation funds and sustainable livelihood programmes for local fishermen like being employed at the refinery etc.
