This photograph was taken completely at random, making it all the more meaningful. A young Economics graduate Sumit Mainali, dressed in his graduation gown, recognized Dr. Minendra Rijal as a fellow alumnus of NYU and respectfully approached him for a photograph.

What stands out most is not the photograph itself, but Dr. Rijal’s extraordinary humility. Despite his achievements and stature, he welcomed the graduate with warmth, kindness, and genuine respect.

Respect cannot be demanded—it is earned through character. That humility is one of Dr. Rijal’s greatest assets. I consider him one of my mentors and guardians, and I feel privileged to have witnessed this beautiful moment of mutual respect and to preserve it through this photograph.

Some memories are valuable not because they are planned, but because they capture the true character of a person. This is one of those moments.
