@em___rem As a dyslexic always struggled in language subjects in school and felt like many teachers couldn't appreciate my actual abilities because of grammar and spelling issues.
I started reading up on linguistics during A-levels which led to a BA, MRes, PhD and now teaching ling at uni
@LauraTvll This. Also I always get the feeling that it's implied they are somehow doing me a favour by offering treatment and support. No, I have a medical issue and I want to be treated and taken seriously because like every other human I (should) have a right to fundamental healthcare.
How do you ensure that you provide an effective learning environment in the face of increased diversity in the higher education classroom?

Sharing my #FHEA case studies. Case Study 1: Learning to supervise BA and MA projects. In short: I needed to learn to let go. What was your first supervision experience, what did you have to learn? https://t.co/tTimuTuBpv

@cgsloan What utter rubbish! I've worked too many double shifts in a 50° kitchen for abysmal pay and with cursory abuse by superiors to be told that what I do now is not proper work. Maybe my body is not totally broken at the end of the same 70h week, but effort & exhaustion are the same.
@wmarybeard@CHonStrike Should also add this is not representative of non-term/non-teaching time, where usually I work no more than 50h/week, with very few exceptions maybe.
@wmarybeard@CHonStrike Very junior teaching fellow. Can feel like 100, but actual weeks during current term have been between 80-95h (mean ~86h). Tbh, I could manage w ~70h, but choose to sacrifice now so I can devote more to career dev activities (research, publishing,...) later in the year #tempjob
Many congratulations to @LinguisticsUCL and @UCLPALS student Dr Florian Breit who gained his PhD yesterday, passing his Viva with NO CORRECTIONS under the expert supervision of Prof John Harris.
