You know the most frustrating thing about the Qatar backlash was that if it came from good faith I would’ve been 100% behind it. But clearly it was rooted in racism because the lack of consistency from both fans and teams with in this years WC is astounding.
@Barstool_Sotey There is a lack of abortion rights, women’s rights, or a pervading sense of safety for LGBTQ communities across the States.
You have a convicted felon as a president, who makes decisions based off how many of his friends he can benefit.
Not to touch on the Epstein angle either.
If you sat half the issues happening in the US for this World Cup happen in Qatar, the west would have absolutely lost their mind.
This is 10x worse than Qatar.
The U.S. should never have been hosting the World Cup. Not only because they have little understanding of football culture ( which is ok) and keep trying to turn everything into a halftime show, but also because of the racism, discrimination,lack of infrastructure and the current state of the world.
This World Cup just ain’t gonna hit the same. And that’s sad as hell. For the world, football is culture, passion and something people live and breathe. Feels like the whole vibe that makes the World Cup special is getting lost.😭
@Barstool_Sotey I haven’t responded to much because it’s a pointless endeavour but I’ll respond to this.
Your entire nation is built off the back of slave labour and racial segregation. There are still massive issues around migrants, to the point where they’re being rounded up into camps.
@jon31928757@AdamWatsonv3mz@imkikosuarez To further the point, the issue is, American stadiums work for the American population. Where you can pick up and move an entire franchise from state to state and still make capital because that is the main driving force.
Not the case in Europe in the slightest.
@jon31928757@AdamWatsonv3mz@imkikosuarez This is objectively incorrect.
The feeling for a football purist to watch their club/nation play in a stadium such as the Maracana will hold a lot more weight to their personal stories than playing in a random template stadium in the United States.
Which sport is more commercialized? I didn’t realize the biggest logo on your jersey being a sponsor is “heritage and soul” and not being a corporate sell out
So far at the 2026 FIFA Epstein Cup before a ball kicked:
- Senegal & Uzbekistan squads treated like criminals upon arrival given full cavity searches;
- Africa’s best referee sent back to Somalia despite having a diplomatic passport;
- Iraq team photographer sent back despite valid visa;
- AIPS (international sport journalist association) calling on FIFA to sort out unacceptable visa issues of African & Iranian journalists;
- 90% of Moroccan fans with tickets denied entry
- 14 members of Iran backroom staff denied visas
Not a word from Gianni ”today I feel black/gay/disabled etc” Infantino.
Americans since the addition of the tweets in this thread have responded with the "slave labour" rhetoric without acknowledging migrants in for-profit ICE detention centers, shooting of innocents, disparity in the treatment of LGBTQ+, oh and a convicted felon pedophile president.
Furthermore, quoting the 6500+ figure and failing to understand the nuance of the number shared by The Guardian. The number is the number of deaths of ALL migrant workers from five South Asian countries across a 10 years.
See below excerpt from the same article.
@Lakersln4 Your entire country is built on slave labour and racial issues, that are STILL prevalent today.
Just because two things aren’t identical, does not mean that both issues do not deserve the same level of condemnation.
Norway said that they are not going to play in World Cup in Qatar even if they qualified (they didn’t). Denmark left it until the last minute to confirm their participation in the World Cup 2022Germany forced their players to make political statements before the match in FIFA WC 2022 even though some players didn’t want to do it.
BBC literally disrupted the coverage of one of the best opening ceremonies of the World Cup in Qatar just for virtue signaling.
but for World Cup 2026, the whole media is silent other than a few token articles here and there and Norway and Germany aren’t protesting anything when there’s so much to protest about 🤡
