1. Today has been the first time I have felt ready to go through the FAI determination in close detail. Sheriff Collins has written an exemplary determination and we sincerly thank him.
You cannot ‘improve’ a system so embroiled with human suffering.
You cannot work in partnership with organisations who cannot be held accountable.
Apologies are empty without action.

Here are 2 pieces I wrote when I broke the story of William Lindsay's suicide in Polmont in 2018. They expose failings in the prison & the care system. I hope the findings of the FAI into his death & Katie Allan's, released tomorrow, are utterly damning. https://t.co/C46U1rGt0y
We are investing £4.2 billion across the justice system in 2025-26 which will continue to keep communities safe, reduce crime and re-offending and support frontline services and victims and witnesses.
@TimNewburn Meanwhile push early release (which is needed) but released early into what, overstressed and underfunded services and totally burnt out staff…
@AllyHarris12 And you Ally, was just telling Iain to pass on my hugs, let’s get a catch up soon!
I include myself in the professionals with optimism but time on our hands. A reflection that’s uncomfortable but necessary.
Coming to terms with this tragic news. children don’t have time for us to get our acts together, play politics or pat e/o on the back. reminder of how our professional future optimism so distant from ch&yps daily realities, what they experience. Action now.
Jonathan Beadle 💔
A 17-year-old has killed himself in Polmont 3 months after legislation designed to make sure no children were sent there again received Royal Assent. My story in @heraldscotland. It's 6 years since William Lindsay's suicide there & it's still happening. https://t.co/A7zH8y5pEk
📣 One week to go📣
This time next week we will be in our first plenary! It's an 8.45 start on Wednesday, but with a headline act worth arriving early for: Vanessa Barker and Maximo Sozzo.
See attached for a full list of fab plenaries.
Lovely to be back with @ESRC_PHYVR crew last week for a brilliant workshop on future of youth justice in beautiful Ljubljana. So many interesting talks, plans afoot and lovely people, food and weather Huge thanks to @JasminaArnez & @rachelfc for organising- esp the big screen ⚽️
A timely reminder:”Children who are in conflict with the law, particularly children who may be committing more serious and/or violent offences, are themselves vulnerable, with complex needs and experience of social adversity”. ⬇️ to find out more on the support these children need
