I first tried @SuperhumanMail in 2020. It was in a league of its own: fast, thoughtfully designed, and far ahead of other email clients. It genuinely felt premium, both in the product itself and in the support.
Over time, my perception changed. Features already available from competitors took too long to arrive, including AI. It felt like the product was falling behind.
For me, joining forces with Grammarly accelerated that loss of identity. What had been a unique email client with a clear focus became part of a suite that makes no sense for my needs. The experience became slower and lost the very simplicity that had won me over.
The redesign was another disappointment. According to the (@rahulvohra ) CEO’s own comments, research informed the changes. But in my experience, the result made things considerably worse.
And support, once a standout feature, became another source of frustration. I don’t want to pay for a tool when I can’t count on getting help when I need it.
Today, I canceled my subscription. In its current state, I wouldn’t pay even $15 a month. With all the possibilities AI has opened up, I hope an alternative emerges that brings back that combination of speed, simplicity, and care for the user.
It’s a shame. I really loved Superhuman. My criticism comes precisely from having known the product when it set the standard.
@danberger@SuperhumanMail@rahulvohra Probably going back to Gmail for now.
The native summarize and auto-draft features are useful, but for me they’re not enough to justify staying if the core email experience no longer feels special.
After 6 years of using Superhuman @SuperhumanMail@rahulvohra almost every single day, the latest update made me make a decision I never thought I would: go back to the native email app.
Superhuman has completely lost the identity that made it special.
The whole idea was to offer an exclusive, fast, and incredibly well-designed email experience. Now, to me, it just feels like another email app like all the others.
The new design feels confusing, has lost its elegance, and most importantly, no longer gives you that feeling of using something truly different.
At $40/month, I honestly don’t see the value anymore. There should at least be an option to switch back to the previous interface or classic theme.
It’s a shame to see a product I admired so much go in this direction.
And from what I’ve been seeing, I’m definitely not the only longtime user who feels this way.
My issue isn’t really that the new UI is slow or difficult to understand. It’s that it feels much less focused.
There’s significantly more spacing, larger controls, floating elements, rounded containers, and visual chrome everywhere. The inbox feels less dense, the sidebar feels heavier, and even the composer takes much more visual space than before.
The old Superhuman felt like a precision tool built specifically for people who live in email. This feels much closer to the design language of many other modern productivity apps.
That differentiation was a big part of why I was willing to pay a premium for Superhuman for six years.
I understand the data may show that the previous interface felt dated to some users, but I genuinely think a “Classic” or compact mode would solve this for longtime power users without preventing the product from moving forward.
@SuperhumanMail The product is great, but the email support experience is really disappointing.
Responses are excessively slow, even for basic issues, which completely breaks the expectation of a premium service.
