The reason the newly born Indian nation survived several separatist movements initially was because our freedom struggle was not centred around hatred, although British gave hundreds of reasons for Indians to hate them.

If leaders of freedom movement had used hate against British as the primary emotion to mobilize Indians, then that hatred would have transferred against groups within Indian once British left.

The primary emotions invoked among masses were swaraj, deshbhakti and balidan, which are a positive forces to unite a bunch of diverse groups and build a modern nation.
