My parents have been living with me lately and they left for the weekend, so you know what that means…
I can finally load the dishwasher the correct way.

Cancer advocates, researchers, clinicians and patients are speaking out in a new @STATNews article about the devastating impact the cuts to federal research funding will have on progress being made in deadly diseases like pancreatic cancer.

My lab has done studies showing that sex biased host responses determine disease outcome during Ebola virus, MERS-CoV, & SARS-CoV-2 infection across species.
Sex is a biological variable. Failure to account for that in viral pathogenesis studies is just bad science.
This data gives me hope: it shows what’s possible when we invest in pediatric cancer research. But continued progress isn’t guaranteed. Pharma has no incentive to focus on rare and childhood cancers. Federal funding is essential to ensure every child has a chance at survival.
Gene therapy restores hearing (!!)
This is the goal. Beautiful mechanistic therapies with effect sizes so big that they can be seen in the very first dozen patients dosed.
Congrats to the one and only Steve Holtzman and the Decibel team for establishing this program, and to Regeneron for carrying it forward.
dyk that women were excluded from clinical trials until the ‘90s 🤯. This had huge consequences for women’s health. The NIH Sex as a Biological Variable policy was meant to ensure female inclusion in studies & now it appears it’s being quietly dismantled.

Tylenol use during pregnancy has been linked to childhood ADHD in a new study:
📊 3x higher odds of ADHD diagnosis
💊 5x more likely to be prescribed ADHD meds
🧬 In females, 5.22% higher odds, mediated by placental gene expression
Let’s break it down 🧵👇 1/9
A new paper shows that personalized pancreatic cancer vaccines can keep patients cancer-free for YEARS - an incredible outcome for a cancer with only a 7% 5-year survival rate.
