How do precancerous pancreas lesions turn into pancreatic cancer? A new study from @UMICHpancreas finds that while the lesions express many of the same genes as tumors, the microenvironment remains like the normal pancreas. https://t.co/hLWgrT4cNu @UMichSurgery@CD_AACR
We have hundreds of PanINs in our pancreas, especially after age 40. They are a pre-cancerous lesion, but it is fortunately rare for one to progress to cancer (PDAC). Now we know a reason for that. The microenvironment. @umichmedicine@UMRogelCancer

So proud of @RashmiJKumar for her fantastic presentation representing @UMICHpancreas and @UMichSurgery at the 2026 Michigan American College of Surgeons Meeting taking home awards for top cancer and top overall presentation!
New research from our team published in @CD_AACR shreds light on how PanIN lesions evolve into pancreatic cancer. This could help us ID people at higher risk of cancer or even potentially stop malignant transformation: https://t.co/Zv8eFzTvbD @Pasca_Lab@timofran1@CD_AACR
New research from @UMICHpancreas sheds light on how early pancreas lesions become cancerous. The findings published in @CD_AACR help explain why many precursor lesions never develop into pancreatic cancer: https://t.co/hLWgrT4cNu @Pasca_Lab@timofran1@Aiims1742
It’s never too to early to develop a passion for research! Congrats to Guy and his mentor Harrison for an award winning poster at the 2026 @UROPumich symposium.
Highlighting again, Thank you Dr. Rashmi Kumar for representing our team in the amazing clinical and research work you do! @UMichSurgery

Fortunate to share in the visit with translational science superstar, Dr. Jen Jen Yeh, Director, UNC Lineberger Pancreatic Cancer Center of Excellence. Dr. Yeh was the Dept. of Surgery Grand Rounds speaker on April 16th hosted by Dr. Frankel and the Center for Basic and Translational Science (CBATS). @timofran1@LyssiotisLab@Pasca_Lab@UMichSurgery@Fil_Bednar
Go Blue! We love watching our trainees shine. Rashmi Kumar, MD, PhD presenting at the Society of Surgical Oncology Conference. Single-Cell Profiling of the Pancreatic Adaptive Immune Microenvironment with Inducible KRAS Activation: Understanding Therapeutic Vulnerabilities. Dr. Kumar is a Dept of Surgery resident and valuable colleague within the Frankel and Pasca di Magliano research labs. #SSO2026 @timofran1@LyssiotisLab@Pasca_Lab@UMRogelCancer@UMichSurgery
I am honored to serve as the new Director of the @Perlmutter_CC. Thanks to Dean/CEO Alec Kimmelman @nyulangone for this opportunity. Excited to partner with @JohnPLeonardMD & the entire PCC community as we build our next exciting chapter. Lots to come!

We are excited to announce that Jamie Mills, MD, PhD has been named the inaugural Rogel and Blondy Center for Pancreatic Cancer Emerging Scholar in Clinical Trials. Dr. Mills’ role will focus on developing investigator-initiated clinical trials as well as increasing participation in existing cooperative and industry sponsored trials. Marking a huge win for our patients and our team!
Dr. Mills joined faculty at the University of Michigan in 2025 after completing her fellowship in Hematology & Medical Oncology. She specializes in medical treatment of cancers of the GI tract, including pancreatic and is heavily involved in studying the epigenetics of pancreatic cancer. @timofran1@UMRogelCancer@Pasca_Lab@LyssiotisLab@Fil_Bednar@EvanGlazerMD
Today we celebrated Ahmed Elhossiny who defended his thesis, Leveraging single-cell and spatial transcriptomics data to decode pancreatic cancer progression. So proud! Congratulations Dr. Elhossiny! @Pasca_Lab@LyssiotisLab@timofran1
A study, led by Timothy Frankel (@timofran1), explains why smokers have a higher chance of developing pancreatic cancer. They found a specific cell that responds to environmental toxins such as those found in cigarettes.
