Lagos is indeed poorly planned in many ways, the roads came after the houses, and the chaos is real. But calling it one of the worst planned megacities while ignoring the root cause misses the bigger picture.
Lagos State is Nigeria’s smallest by land area, yet it’s forced to house over 20–25 million people, that’s not bad planning alone, that’s the entire country treating Lagos like the only place worth living in.
Every day, thousands of Nigerians (estimates are around 2,000–4,000 net migrants) abandon their states and flood into Lagos looking for opportunities.
When almost every other state fails to create jobs, security, infrastructure, and basic services, people vote with their feet. The result? Slums, street sleeping, open defecation, insane traffic, and unbearable pressure on a tiny piece of land that was never designed for this population.
Lagos isn’t just badly planned, it’s being overwhelmed by national failure.
If we developed the other 35 states properly with real industries, good roads, reliable power, security, and opportunities, Lagos wouldn’t be drowning.
The pressure would ease naturally.
Blaming Lagos alone is like blaming the lifeboat for sinking when the whole ship is taking on water.
Fix the rest of Nigeria, and Lagos will finally breathe.
Every time a bottle, food pack, nylon bag, or any waste is thrown from a vehicle onto the road, it may seem insignificant. However, when thousands of people do the same, our streets become littered, drainage channels become blocked, and the environment suffers.
What you throw away today can contribute to:
Flooding caused by blocked drains and waterways.
Environmental pollution and unpleasant surroundings.
Health risks from disease-causing pests and contaminated water.
Increased government spending on waste evacuation and road maintenance.
A negative image of our beautiful city.
A clean Lagos is not the responsibility of government alone - it is a duty we all share. Dispose of your waste properly, keep a waste bag in your vehicle, and use designated waste bins.
What you do: Throw waste on the road.
What you cause: Pollution, flooding, and environmental degradation.
What you should do: Keep your waste until you find a proper bin.
Keep Lagos Clean. Protect the Environment. Save Lives.

@Nasir1on1 Illiteracy - highest in the North
Child malnutrition - highest in the North
Out of school kids - highest in the North
WAEC enrollment - lowest in the North
Terrorism - highest in the North
70% of child beggars are from the North.
Children are the foundation of society btw.
@sodiq1313 Now that should be the prerogative of states not the federal government. If a state doesn't want cattle settlements, then it doesn't want it. Bikes are banned in some states and allowed in others. It is their prerogative.
@A__yabo Then why does it need to be passed by the assembly? Can't Muslims decide to live by sharia law as the true Muslims they are? Imagine Pastor Kumuyi pressuring the Assembly to pass a 'born again law' that bans the use of jewelry. Does that make any sense to you?
@IdrisAOni1 Christianity frowns on polygamy, the state permits it. Christianity preaches tithing but the state doesn't care what you do after tax. Christianity asks for Baptism. Christians live by this "conviction" but I have never seen them bother the state. Why can't you do the same?
The North must work on birth control. Giving birth to children you cannot adequately care for may later contribute to social problems, including insecurity and terrorism. There has to be a strong birth control message in the North, and it must be aggressively promoted.
The president has removed subsidy, so why is he still borrowing? 👇📷 👇
Listen to this and pull yourself out of total darkness. Your bigotry, tribalism, and cheap political propaganda have completely trapped your mindset.

Dear Tobechukwu (SP Abraham),
Thank you for your feedback. While we love and admire the great commercial Igbo people of Nigeria for their contribution to the greatness of Nigeria and Lagos, Eko Atlantic City was, however, not the product of our beloved fellow citizens.
This project was entirely the brainwork and conception of then-Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Not even the Federal Government was involved.
In fact, the real purpose of the project, which is officially known as Nigeria International Commerce City, was to stop the encroachment of the sea into Victoria Island (Victoria Island should be changed to a Lukumi Yoruba name).
The project was funded by the Lagos State Government and its concessionary partners.
This is not even the first time the Lukumi people have accomplished such a feat. Before colonialism, Nana Olomu of Itsekiri sand-filled an entire creek, reclaiming land from the water, using 100% local ingenuity, and built a new town called Ebrohimi. This town served as the Itsekiri capital during the interregnum until the British fought Nana and destroyed Ebrohimi in 1894.
However, sir, it is possible that you have some previously unknown esoteric knowledge about persons of Igbo heritage, who are the real brains behind the project. If you do have these details, please could you help improve my education by making such information public.
Thanks again, Tobechukwu, and may God bless you.

It’s really shameful seeing media outlets, people and the so called “celebrities “ spreading false information about the country Nigeria. May God Almighty have mercy on them
I have also directed the deployment of a specialised security unit with advanced rescue capabilities to intensify efforts to secure the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.
The communities' request for the establishment of a military base in the area is receiving urgent consideration.
I share the pain and anxiety of the affected families. No child should be taken from the safety of a classroom. No parent should have to endure this anguish.
