🚨 SERIOUS CUSTOMER SAFETY COMPLAINT | MAHINDRA THAR BREAKDOWN | RSA FAILURE | FAMILY SAFETY | LOSS OF TRUST
@Mahindra_Auto@anandmahindra
Dear Mahindra Management,
I am raising this complaint publicly because this is not merely a routine vehicle breakdown/service issue. It concerns the safety of my family, failure of roadside assistance, significant financial loss and, most importantly, the loss of trust in a vehicle that I purchased from Mahindra.
VEHICLE DETAILS:
• Vehicle: Mahindra Thar 4x2 Petrol Automatic
• Purchase Date: 27 June 2023
• Dealer: Koncept Mahindra
• Vehicle Age: Approx. 3 years
• Odometer: Less than 20,000 km
• Registration: DL12CW5409
INCIDENT – 14 AUGUST 2026
While travelling towards Nainital/Jim Corbett with my wife and children, I refuelled my Thar with petrol worth approximately ₹3,800 at an Indian Oil petrol pump in Kaladhungi, Uttarakhand.
Within just approximately 4 km, while travelling in/near the forest area of Kaladhungi, the vehicle developed a series of critical failures:
All warning/fault lights on the instrument cluster suddenly turned ON.
The RPM meter showed an abnormal reading of around 180, while the vehicle was moving at only around 20 km/h with virtually no pickup.
The complete instrument cluster/meter froze/hung.
The horn started blowing continuously and stopped only after restarting the vehicle.
Finally, the vehicle became completely non-functional and would not start.
This was particularly frightening because I was travelling with my wife and children in/near a forest/remote area.
MAHINDRA RSA / SERVICE FAILURE
I immediately contacted Mahindra Customer Care/RSA and explained the situation and the fact that I was stranded with my family.
I was informed that Mahindra RSA assistance was not available in the Kaladhungi area.
Despite repeated requests and explaining that this was an emergency situation involving my wife and children, no effective assistance was provided.
I then contacted Bajrang Motors, Haldwani, but was informed that they did not have a towing facility and that I should arrange towing myself.
With no effective Mahindra assistance available, I was ultimately forced to seek help from local villagers and arrange a crane on my own to transport the vehicle to Bajrang Motors.
FAMILY SAFETY – APPROX. 10 HOURS STRANDED
My family and I remained stranded for approximately 10 hours in/near the forest area.
I had to arrange alternative transportation and accommodation to ensure the safety of my wife and children.
This was not simply an inconvenience. Being stranded for approximately 10 hours in/near a forest area with my family created a serious safety and security concern.
I keep asking myself:
If something had happened to my wife, children or me during those 10 hours, who would have taken responsibility?
FINANCIAL LOSS
Because of the breakdown and lack of timely assistance, I incurred the following additional expenses:
• Crane: ₹3,000
• Hotel: ₹15,525
• Taxi from Dhikuli Village to Delhi on 15-Aug-2026: ₹5,500
TOTAL ADDITIONAL EXPENSES: ₹24,025/-
I also had an RSA add-on in my TATA AIG insurance policy, but I could not obtain the required assistance at the time of this emergency.
VEHICLE STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION
On 16-Aug-2026, Bajrang Motors informed me that the vehicle was still being investigated.
I was also informed that they were not yet clear whether the problem was related to software/electronics or another technical issue, and whether the repair would be covered under a claim.
This is extremely concerning.
A Mahindra Thar that is approximately 3 years old and has travelled less than 20,000 km should not leave a family completely stranded because of a possible electronic/software-related failure.
LOSS OF TRUST
The most important issue for me is NOT the ₹24,025 financial loss.
The biggest issue is the LOSS OF TRUST AND CONFIDENCE in my vehicle.
After the experience of 14-Aug-2026, where I was stranded for approximately 10 hours with my wife and children in/near a forest area, I no longer feel comfortable depending on this vehicle for family travel, particularly in remote or forest locations.
I purchased this vehicle trusting the Mahindra brand.
That trust has now been seriously shaken.
MY QUESTIONS TO MAHINDRA MANAGEMENT
@Mahindra_Auto@anandmahindra, I request clear answers to the following:
How can a Thar that is only approximately 3 years old and has travelled less than 20,000 km become completely non-functional due to a possible software/electronic or technical failure?
Why was Mahindra RSA not available/provided in Kaladhungi Uttrakhand despite this being an emergency involving a family?
Why was I required to arrange my own crane when I had contacted Mahindra RSA for assistance?
Why is there no appropriate fail-safe/emergency mechanism to safely move the vehicle in case of a critical electronic/software failure?
If something had happened to my wife, children or me during those approximately 10 hours, who would have taken responsibility?
Who will reimburse the ₹24,025 additional expenses that I incurred because of the breakdown and lack of timely assistance?
Why was a customer with a relatively new vehicle and less than 20,000 km left in such a situation?
Most importantly, what concrete solution will Mahindra provide to restore the trust and confidence that I have lost in this vehicle?
WHAT I EXPECT FROM MAHINDRA
I request Mahindra Management to treat this as a serious CUSTOMER SAFETY and BRAND TRUST issue, rather than a routine service complaint.
I expect:
✅ A detailed written root-cause technical report explaining exactly what failed.
✅ A complete explanation of the electronic/software/technical failure and the reason the vehicle became completely non-functional.
✅ A written explanation regarding the non-availability/failure of Mahindra RSA assistance in Kaladhungi Uttrakhand Area (Near Ramnagar)
✅ Reimbursement of my ₹24,025 genuine additional expenses.
✅ Appropriate corrective action so that such an incident does not happen to another customer.
✅ Most importantly, a concrete BUYBACK or VEHICLE EXCHANGE proposal.
BUYBACK / EXCHANGE REQUEST
Because my confidence in this particular vehicle has been seriously affected, I request Mahindra to consider either:
OPTION 1 – BUYBACK:
Mahindra may take back my vehicle at a fair and reasonable value and provide an appropriate settlement.
OR
OPTION 2 – VEHICLE EXCHANGE:
Mahindra may offer a suitable exchange/upgrade arrangement against another Mahindra variant at a reasonable and mutually acceptable value.
I would genuinely prefer to continue my association with Mahindra.
However, after what happened to my family on 14-Aug-2026, I need a solution that restores my confidence and trust in the brand.
SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS
I have documentary evidence supporting my complaint, including and able to share the same via mail:
📄 Vehicle Purchase Invoice
📄 RC
📄 Crane Receipt dated 14-Aug-2026
📄 Hotel Invoice dated 14-Aug-2026
📄 Taxi Invoice dated 15-Aug-2026
📄 Relevant insurance/RSA documents
📄 Other supporting documents and evidence
I will provide the complete documents to Mahindra through the appropriate official channel.
I am intentionally not posting the complete RC copy, personal address, mobile number or other sensitive personal information publicly on X. The complete documentation can be shared privately with Mahindra.
FINAL REQUEST
@Mahindra_Auto@anandmahindra
Please do not treat this as just another breakdown ticket.
A family was stranded for approximately 10 hours in/near a forest area after a relatively new Thar became completely non-functional.
The issue is not only:
“Why did the vehicle break down?”
The bigger questions are:
“Why was emergency assistance not available?”
“What happens to a family when the vehicle fails in a remote area?”
“Who takes responsibility when the customer is left stranded?”
“And how does Mahindra restore the trust of a customer who no longer feels safe depending on the vehicle?”
I sincerely hope Mahindra Management will take this complaint seriously and provide a responsible, transparent and customer-focused resolution.
If I do not receive a satisfactory response, I will be constrained to approach the appropriate Consumer Forum/Court and other competent authorities with all supporting documents and evidence.
I am not looking for publicity.
I am asking for ACCOUNTABILITY, SAFETY, TRANSPARENCY and A FAIR RESOLUTION.
