University of Michigan President Mark Schlissel fired following internal investigation into his behavior, the Board of Regents announced Saturday.
Story to come.
University senate rules: abstentions count as non-votes BUT majority is for "all ballots cast"
Does this mean that Motion 6 passes?? Stay tuned.

I have #NoConfidenceInSchlissel because he made it abundantly clear just where his "commitment" to DEI stood on his list of priorities when he admitted that BIPOC concerns - after a turbulent summer - were put on the back burner
I have #NoConfidenceInSchlissel because instead of investing $$ into adequate testing, tracing, and quarantine housing BEFORE bringing students back, he offered them #AppeasementMicrowaves (2 weeks into term!) and splurged on making a promotional video about quarantine at U-M
Schlissel changed his mind about allowing football, despite 12 new cases in the Athletics department last week, but refuses to budge on safety measures for anyone at the university ... #FireMarkSchlissel
Today, the UM Faculty Senate is planning to vote #NoConfidenceInSchlissel, @geo3550 and the RAs are still on strike, and others have joined them.
Schlissel has responded by suing his graduate students.
Now the RAs, who aren’t even unionized, are on strike, too! Everyone recognizes that UM’s reopening plan is unsafe. #FireMarkSchlissel#StrikeForSafeCampus
He doesn’t! @geo3550 is on strike to protest Schlissel’s mismanagement of COVID and policing this week. University employees know our lives are at stake and are picketing for a safe and just pandemic response.
We welcome support from allies who are concerned about Schlissel’s harmful leadership. We do not welcome support from those who believe COVID-19 is not dangerous, or that it’s a hoax.
Again, we do NOT want to fire Schlissel because we want football this fall. Don’t be like Schlissel, who didn’t read the comments he’d received about former provost Philbert’s sexual harassment. Read our site before interacting with this account! https://t.co/gYvGHPMdDH
COVID-19 cases spike at University of Illinois: More than 400 new cases have been identified since classes began Aug. 24.
Students have been told to stay home except for essential trips and not to gather, even in small groups. https://t.co/OJTrmt9acr
The @nytimes has been tracking college COVID cases. UNC, whose plan was similar to UM’s, shifted online within a week and still has *1100* cases. Why does Schlissel think his campus—and the Ann Arbor community—will see anything different?

Last week, UM conducted 776 tests. We have 70,000 students, faculty, and staff. Even if we went with the low estimate that only 1/4 of them are on campus this fall, that stacks up to only having tested 4% of the on-campus population.
