New Start, Oregon: A new wildfire has popped up in Linn county, Oregon about 2 miles Southwest of Detroit Lake. The fire is moving West and was sized up at 15 acres currently.

Two helicopters are en route along with Forest Service resources and Oregon Department of Forestry resources. The fire is west of the Kinney Creek drainage. Currently 80 degrees, 7MPH winds, and 25% RH.

The Great Basin Smokejumpers have spent the spring training, conducting refresher jumps, and preparing for the increase in fire activity ahead.

Recently, our Director, Chief Brian Fennessy, spent time with the crew to get a firsthand look at their operations, training, and readiness for the season ahead. From packing parachutes to jump prep, these firefighters continue to sharpen the skills needed to respond when called.

The #MorrillFire has rapidly expanded to nearly 550,000 acres in just 72 hours, and the Cottonwood fire south of the Morrill fire is at 100k acres.

However, there is some relief in sight... the front moving through the Midwest is expected to bring much-needed moisture, which could aid firefighting efforts and help slow the fires spread. #NEwx
