We had a paper accepted this morning that was in brain since 2016. I am an engineer by training, and never really understood what a catchment was. During my Ph.D. I heard this word, and watershed used a lot. Then, I learned these are topographically derived.
@KirkwoodLab @jeremy_bradbury@WilsonToxLab@seer_lab I think it's practicality and modesty. Naming your lab what it does says it does that great ... others, not so much. Naming it after yourself says it does whatever you do the best it can. When all else fails, go with a catchy acronym and logo!
The Sharma Lab @YorkUScience is hiring a postdoc to assess whether the coastal areas of the northern shore of Lake Superior are vulnerable to algal blooms in response to climate change and nutrient enrichment. Apply by April 30. Ad here: https://t.co/vZno3iJmVI Please share.
@NuclearKirk @KirkwoodLab @ontariotech_u Nuance and qualification don’t really work in pandemic messaging. What @NuclearKirk is saying, although true, quickly gets degraded to “might as well not bother” *logic*.
Nice to hear the story focusing on applications of marine eDNA on @InfoMorningCB this morning. Kellie White and I are also doing eDNA work at CBU (Biology) with a focus on freshwater mussels of conservation concern!
@dpmckenzie@DrZ_Psych The sweet spot between padding and ignoring important stuff you do might be a generic title (e.g. “History of Conflict at Drive-thru Restaurants”) and then listing the guest spots where you’ve talked about this.
@DrZ_Psych@elita_parto In my experience there are two kinds of people. Good people, who have the paper rolling over the front, and terrible, willfully wrong people. Preference is genetic, or at least epigenetic.
@DrStevenMurphy Thanks to @DrStevenMurphy for hosting a wonderful celebration of Becky. Wonderful to see everybody, albeit for the worst reason. I guess we can feel solace knowing she would’ve loved the vibe. ❤️
@Billius27 I think the business model of curbside will keep it around. They don’t have to deal with me messing up the produce, dealing with checkout, leaving my cart in the parking lot... Optimizing all that makes it cheaper for them, like take-out in restaurants.
My wife screwed up and said the B word around my toddler and now he's running around the house yelling it. How do I stop this? What if he says it at daycare and the other parents think we're Bayesians?
