Men learn by suffering.
Even in sleep pain drips down through the heart,
and wisdom comes, against our will,
through the harsh grace of the gods.
Aeschylus - "Agamemnon", Oresteia
Nothing will kill more dreams over the next decade than the paralyzing curse of infinite optionality.
Decide what you want. Calculate the cost to get there. Pursue as if no other option ever existed. Fall in love with the sound.
To focus is to reject.
Britain had become such an impoverished country that our people have given up any hope of amassing material possessions and now aspire only to escape the cycle of Samsara
According to psychology, one of the most common mistakes people make in relationships is assuming that their partner thinks, feels, and processes the world the same way they do. This is called the false consensus effect. You project your own emotional patterns onto them. You assume that if they loved you, they would react the way you react, express love the way you express it, apologize the way you apologize. And when they do not, you interpret it as a lack of love. But that is not fair. People are wired differently. They have different attachment styles, different love languages, different coping mechanisms, different nervous systems. Your partner may love you deeply, but express it in ways that do not match your expectations. The key is not to assume. It is to learn. To ask. To be curious about how they experience the world. Because love is not about finding someone who loves you exactly the way you love them. It is about understanding how they love, and choosing to receive it for what it is.
The ancients used to take a professional craft like masonry and use that prop room alone to metaphoricalize the deepest esoteric wisdom about statecraft and theology possible in the human mind.
If you are young or wandering aimlessly, I suggest a targeted attack on the Western Canon rather than reading without a mission: read every classical work that deals with seafaring. All of it. You'll bust through the lower waters.
I start laughing every time I remember that the Greeks literally *forgot* how to read and write during the Greek Dark Ages. not that writing became scarce or rare, it doesn’t exist for like 300yrs. then when they relearned how, they came back using a whole new alphabet
i think a subtle reason dating has gotten harder or is just generally bad is because a lot of people are having romantic/sexual experiences later in life, & they resent jumping into very serious adult connections without ever experiencing puppy love or casual affections
I’m convinced that you can get pretty far in life by just finishing things. The world is full of half-written books, half-built businesses, and half-kept promises. You stand out by showing up. By closing loops. By doing what you said you’d do. By having the courage to finish.
Lineage holding high lama I met is strongly critical of using substances, and had to clean up a lot of messes from them. Would still be interested to read this nonetheless.
Truly never ceases to amaze me how sexless and frigid libtards are, like at their very core. They managed to turn sex into some kind of plastic surgery book club. Absolute fucking losers.
"stress testing" is cope. girls do this as a way to hide the feelings that will actually make their boyfriends distressed
"oh he got a little pissed I ran late, what a great excuse not to tell him how he reminds me of my detached dad and how it makes me terrified to marry him"
“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.”
-Dale Carnegie
after you die, this feedback system also ensures that you experience every single thing you made others feel in this lifetime as if it happened to you instead, in vivid detail of emotion and sensory immersion. so you can imagine bad people are not having a great time when they move on from this plane. there is no hell but the one you create for yourself.
