as og coder @simonw says ai is just a different level of abstraction. you trade low-level control for speed and reach, but it's still a tool.

what makes AI different: it's the first tool you can use with zero human intent. type a lazy prompt, post the output, never make a single creative decision. every previous tool still required you to do the work. with ai, that is optional.

this is why ai is so controversial. people aren't wrong to be skeptical. what they're reacting to is real, a flood of content with no intent behind it.

what i push back on is the idea that ai-assisted automatically means low quality. it can be. it usually is.

but that says more about how people are using it than what it's capable of when someone actually gives a damn about the point underneath.
