Incredible how these two critiques work in tandem with each other. Just as in real life, the base of the system/problem (capitalism/oil/digger) is reproduced and reinforced by the superstructure (art/government/ideology). Need more directors applying dialectics like this.
This is one of two theses of the film. While the larger critique is about the way that media and art can be produced to uphold the hegemony of liberalism, this scene is the critique of the systemic problem we are all complicit in. If he didn't exist the system would demand him.
