President Adama Barrow made history by launching the first children's book authored by a sitting president in the country.
Titled 'The Village Boy Who Would Be President', the book shares Barrow's journey from humble beginnings to becoming the nation's leader, aiming to inspire Gambian children to dream big and embrace values like hard work and leadership.
Speaking at the launch, which took place on Wednesday at the State House in Banjul, Barrow expressed humility and joy, hoping his story would resonate with young readers, encouraging them to pursue their aspirations with determination.
Ministers Cole and Gomez emphasized the importance of literature in education, praising the book's potential to revive a culture of reading among Gambian youth.
Yankuba Darboe, Commissioner General of GRA, highlighted the inspirational message of resilience depicted in Barrow's life.
The book, reviewed by Nana Grey Johnson, Aisha Jawara, and Sola Mahoney, received praise for its significance to Gambian children.
Excerpts from the book were read by grade three pupil Aji Fatou Dibba and grade four pupil Alieu Badara Waggan, illustrating its accessibility to young readers.
