Exciting discovery: #SpottedGar found in Toronto waters! During a recent night electrofishing survey, TRCA made an incredible find - a Spotted Gar! This marks the first record of this fish species in over 30 years of waterfront fisheries surveys in the region.
The Spotted Gar is both an #endangered and unique native fish, known for its long snout and spotted body. This ancient and primitive fish species has the ability to breathe air, and its sharp teeth demonstrate its role as a top predator.
This discovery underscores the need to continue to monitor and understand the biodiversity of our local waters so we can make informed decisions about how to best safeguard habitat for fish communities.
Stay tuned as we continue to explore and protect Toronto regional waters. To learn more about our long-term waterfront fisheries surveys, visit: https://t.co/Zbv2mcgytd
