a great American university with an endowment the size of a small country blew everything on crypto and real estate, and now they can’t afford basic library databases. so much for the infinite wisdom of Milton Friedman, etc
There is still a chance that some of these jobs can be restored. We call on everyone who cares for the welfare of workers and the future of higher ed: DO NOT SCAB for Columbia. Sign & share our open letter: https://t.co/hm0cOHXkHZ
Ranjani Srinivasan’s case is a terrifying escalation in the criminalization of speech. A PhD student & Fulbright scholar—she had her visa revoked, was branded a “terrorist sympathizer” without evidence, & ICE hunted her down. Her crime? Signing letters & sharing posts on Palestine.
This is a blatant violation of due process. She was given no chance to contest her visa revocation—just targeted, smeared, & forced to flee. The First Amendment is meaningless if the government can weaponize immigration laws to silence dissent.
ICE now storms campuses over minor infractions. This is selective enforcement—retaliation against pro-Palestinian voices and those sympathetic to the Palestinian cause. Labeling a student a “terrorist” with no proof is state repression, setting a precedent where protest = persecution.
Ranjani fled to Canada. Mahmoud Khalil is in ICE custody. The message is clear: speak out & you will be criminalized, detained, or deported.
This should chill everyone to their bone, regardless of political persuasion. The State Department is detaining, and cancelling the green card of someone solely for speaking up for Palestine. Mahmoud Khalil is not accused of a single crime.
🚨Inbox: Palestinian Columbia grad Mahmoud Khalil, a negotiator for the @ColumbiaBDS student encampment last spring, has been detained by DHS agents “without the physical demonstration of a warrant or officially filed charges.”
Columbia allowed this to happen. Columbia allowed ICE to abduct a Palestinian member of our community after an incessant vitriolic doxxing campaign started by our own campus zionists. Mahmoud’s wife is due in one month and they took him right in front of her. This is unbearable.
🚨BREAKING | U.S. State Department is launching “Catch and Revoke,” an AI-driven initiative to cancel the visas of foreign nationals who “appear to support Hamas or other designated terror groups,” @axios reports citing senior State Department officials.
A single social media post from a foreign national that appears to endorse the attack on Israel and looks "pro-Hamas," could be grounds for visa revocation, the State official reportedly said.
Officials will use AI to review tens of thousands of student visa holders' social media accounts. They will also review databases, past protest coverage, and legal cases filed by Jewish students alleging antisemitism.
The official said, “Under President Trump, the Immigration Nationality Act is great again.”
NYPD stomped on someone’s chest and sent them to the hospital yesterday. Our own student government immediately condemned President Rosenbury’s decision to allow NYPD to arrest students. Meanwhile faculty are telling a student to read a speech aloud for them bc they’re scared??
It is honestly really depressing that 18-22 year old students who don’t even have our degrees yet are forced to put everything on the line while not a single tenured faculty member is willing to read out a condemnation of NYPD on campus. Are we really asking for too much?
