Interesting Ben. However, Natural England’s proposed/required grazing reductions apply through stocking limits or livestock-unit calculations which do not sufficiently protect ponies as a separate category. Because ponies have little commercial value compared with sheep and cattle, commoners under pressure to reduce total grazing may remove ponies first. That is the indirect mechanism.

The DHPA document makes exactly this point: whether ponies are already inside HLS stocking calendars or are pulled into Countryside Stewardship calendars for the first time, the move to lower stocking densities would expose them to reductions of 56–89%.

So, given the apolitical constraints on a constitutional monarch in a parliamentary democracy which executed his ancestor for over-stepping his bounds, you don't think presiding over the WWF-UK, pretty much founding the organic and sustainable farming movements and moving to conserve and preserve wherever he can to the extent that government ministers on both sides have accused him of meddling in the press counts?

You do know the Duke of Edinburgh was founding President of WWF-UK from its foundation in 1961, and International President of WWF from 1981 to 1996? Or that the King was President of WWF-UK from 2011 as Prince of Wales and is now Patron? That the organic food and sustainable farming movement was practically founded by him? He was a one man royal pressure group, convening the May 2013 meeting with the UK Government, with Prince William, which became the February 2014 London Conference on the Illegal Wildlife Trade, producing the London Declaration, signed by 46 countries and 11 international organisations turning the illegal wildlife trade from a conservation issue into an organised-crime issue. Prince William then made this further operational founding United for Wildlife. If people shoot excess population or bred game birds or deer which they eat, or simply buy burgers to pay someone else to shoot cattle with a captive steel bolt or drumsticks to pay someone else to gas or cut the throat of a chicken is irrelevant.

It’s a plaster that might led a wound heal invisibly. But I agree, maybe. Whatever works. As there is a time for Realpolitik, I have always liked an idea of “Realkonservierung”, real conservation. And Royals can be more lasting as allies than all the politicians spinning for a vote, just before they all forget the ponies when the government falls on Monday.

Anything that works, though.

(1) I never said they were Proto-Indo-European, because no one ever was. That is a constructed linguistic artefact postulated to explain the similarity between languages. A missing link notion in linguistics. It is NOT a people. And I do not say it is.
(2) No, the difference is real. However, there is insufficient evidence in the cave hence I clearly state I go towards the evidence to imagine a scenario, not against, but I never, ever claim this is what actually happened with certainty.
(3) Measurements on modern children were made in societies without shoes FOR THAT REASON. Your statement is simply wrong.
