@lbc@IanpayneLBC Caller says e-scooters should pay to use the roads. Then cars should too. When will people understand that "road tax" is not a tax for using the roads. Roads are paid for from general taxation.
@LBC@OliDugmore The availability of single-sex spaces does matter. Your contributor may not care but that doesn't give him the right to speak for women.
@HelenaHandcart0 @Socialist_north @pa40556213@coldgnu@StanislawBits@MimiJ9 It's legal but it doesn't make it morally right. Public services don't fund themselves. My accountant has stopped asking me if there is anything else I've spent that I can use to offset my taxes. I could probably pay less but I'm happy to pay more.
@ragnorakishere@PeterRoffey5@sharrond62@herrbartlett1 We know the cases in which it wouldn't work. But for lots of people it would work. It would allow some people who can't afford to always have a car the opportunity to use one when needed.
@deanboultwood @custardcross @legalclaret It's not taxed again. I keep hearing how it has been passed down through generations. It has simply increased in value. It's only taxed over 2 mil & can be 3 mil if there's a farmhouse. 20% opposed to 40% for everyone else.

@PeterRoffey5@sharrond62@herrbartlett1 Aren't there short-term hire services in the UK? I live in Slovenia & our city has a scheme where you can hire electric cars for very short-term use.
@sharrond62 It's not about having everything within 15 mins. It's about having the key things we need within easy reach - a GP, shops, somewhere for recreation.
@DrJoMoor1@latsot I can't bring myself to explain it to her. I don't like the thought of her spending her last years upset and worried about what could happen. Just an example - osteoporosis already runs in our family. My mum has no idea that the drugs my niece is now committed to will worsen it.
@DrJoMoor1@latsot The others are all supportive of the transition. My mother said she was surprised because she thought I was "broad-minded". I think she thinks being supportive is the right thing to do. However, I know that she is not aware of the reality of what my niece is doing, and ...
