I was today years old when I realized a microwave can actually be a serious business idea, because today, since we didn’t have any cars remaining, I decided to kuingia town for 1, 2, 3 errands, and that is how I landed in this lady’s shop. She sells laptops and accessories.

The lady gave me a seat and told me to relax as she sourced for me everything I had gone to buy, so I sat there for like one hour, watching life happen, only to realize that her shop was not just a shop but a whole lunch-hour institution.

Ayam telling you, the number of people who were coming there to warm food was crazy, because at first I thought the first two were just her friends or random customers, until people started showing up one after another with lunch boxes, and before I knew it, building mzima had formed a line kwa microwave.
She charges 20 bob per lunch box, and the interesting part is that because she had stepped out, it was the husband who was running the warming department like a full operations manager, receiving lunch boxes, timing them properly, handing them back, and keeping the queue moving like someone with a KPI.

As if that was not enough, they also have a fridge with beverages, cookies, and biscuits that you can clearly tell are homemade, meaning as you wait for your food to warm, your eyes start negotiating with your stomach, and before you know it, umeongeza soda na cookie kwa bill.
Kukaa kidogo, I realize this creative couple commutes in a new model RAV4, and that is when it hit me that hii town kulala njaa ni kama ni kujitakia, because some people are not waiting for million-dollar ideas, they are simply solving small daily problems consistently and collecting 20 bob at a time.

Business ideas are not always in boardrooms, pitch decks, imported English, and “dear investor” emails; sometimes ni microwave, good location, homemade snacks, a small fridge, and a supportive mpoa who can hold the fort when you step out. Shughuli 1, 2, 3 na mpoa supportive ni hivo sasa.
