@bronzeagemantis I recently finished the Sea of Fertility series as my first introduction to Mishima. Loved Spring Snow and Runaway Horses, the latter two were good but lesser. Taking a break from Mishima for a bit but will probably read The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With the Sea when I return.
@extradeadjcb It’s also reasonable that after the successful Death Star attack, the balance of power / hierarchy could have shifted to more direct sith control (imperial bungling, etc).
@owenbroadcast I gave this to my dad as a gift a couple years ago and he absolutely loves it. He was so into it that he ended up buying a few shirts from your site, wears them all the time.
@low_dosage I think part of it is people not reading much, but another thing that may be relevant is the automated subtitle generation on things like TikTok that use the wrong words constantly. People who spend a lot of time on TikTok may just actually be learning the wrong words.
@allie__voss I remember a conversation with my sister where she was saying that if someone broke into her family’s house in the night, she would use jiu jitsu to subdue him. I was like, no, I think you should just go get the gun.
@cairoasmith Civ VII also just has like no flavor text or imagery for half the features, such as the government policies stuff (or whatever it’s called in VII). Huge disappointment for me.
@HellenicVibes I remember in high school I joined a “History Club” I had seen on a flyer, excited to chat and explore history with other interested students. It was all just strivers who weren’t actually interested in history at all. They just wanted that club on their college applications.
@Awwrnold Awesome I’ve been looking for something like this for a long time. Have played with various tectonic world generators and they’ve always been a bit wonky or not quite right. Will be playing with this tonight.
It’s honestly similar to LLMs for coding: if you don’t know enough going in, you’re going to end up way off course. But if you have a good sense for what is likely correct, what are the “account smells”, and what needs closer scrutiny, you can get a lot of value. It also helps if your mental model for news is not just “facts or falsehoods” but rather a constant testing against your world model and a constantly adjusting probability for each thing you hear about.
@razibkhan This list @eigenrobot put together has served me well the last couple days as far as just seeing “what’s happening the last hour”.
