Uganda’s rich coffee heritage was on full display at the Uganda Coffee Cupping Event in Bamberg, Germany, where international buyers, roasters, and enthusiasts experienced the unique flavours of our Arabica and Robusta coffees.

Organised in partnership with the Uganda Embassy in Berlin (@UgBerlinEmbassy) and Littlefarms Coffee (Tom Kalyesubula, a Ugandan farmer and exporter based in Nakasongola & Germany), the event highlighted the growing role of the Ugandan diaspora in taking our coffee to global markets.

Jessica Namuddu, representing the Uganda Embassy in Berlin, reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to positioning coffee not just as a commodity, but as part of our identity, a lifeline for millions of farmers, and a bridge to international partnerships.

With diaspora-led initiatives like this, Ugandan coffee is gaining more recognition, new trade opportunities, and a stronger footprint on shelves across Europe.

In his address, UIA CEO, @Jonan_Kisakye, reaffirmed our dedication to fostering collaboration among our members to improve service delivery & highlighted UIA’s commitment to research aimed at addressing public needs.

He recognized the Authorized Economic Operators for their exemplary compliance with customs procedures, noting their crucial role in strengthening Uganda’s economy.

Jonan also clarified on a recent concern regarding the differing methods used by the @URAuganda and insurance providers for value calculations. He explained that the insurance certificate and URA operate independently, and the focus should not be limited to the issue of value alignment, as the two systems will no longer correlate in terms of value computation. This separation stems from initial consultations between system developers and URA. While the insurance sector calculates the insurance value specifically for the "I" in the Cost, Insurance, and Freight (CIF) formula, URA uses a different method for tax computations.
