(Mature) Geology graduate and WEM MSc from University of Brighton. Not much of a fan of the tories or brexit. RT’s usually endorsements otherwise why bother?
The General Sherman Tree. By volume, it’s the largest living tree on Earth and is estimated to be 2,500 years old!
Despite their importance old growth forests continue to be logged globally. It's time to protect the irreplaceable.

Watching the summer of 76 in BBC
On Monday week, there's a climate conference marking 50 years since that most memorable of summers.
The Summer of 1976 remains one of the most iconic weather events in UK history. It is embedded in the national memory through images of crowded beaches, parched lawns and standpipes in the streets as water supplies ran short in homes. Many however, don’t remember that summer’s failed harvests, rising food prices, extensive wildfires and heat-related illness suffered by many at major events such as Wimbledon. The country also faced the threat of a three-day working week due to pressure on water and electricity supplies.
The Summer of 1976 heatwave led to around 20% excess mortality, with approximately 250 deaths per day during the 15-day peak beginning on 23 June 1976. The prolonged dry and hot conditions were eventually followed by extreme rainfall, culminating in significant flooding by the August Bank Holiday.
Fifty years on, this anniversary offers a moment to reflect on the summer of 1976 and what this means for future generations and the way of life in the UK. Even more extreme summers than that experienced in 1976 are expected to become the norm in the coming decades. Summers with temperatures exceeding 40C are expected to become more frequent, fuelled by high human-induced greenhouse gas emissions, with the majority coming from burning fossil fuels.
Elon Musk is a trillionaire on an overheating planet with a civilisation that is heading towards collapse.
The biggest problem we have is a mass cultural mental and spiritual illness.
Nuclear power is the most expensive way to make electricity - the slowest, most expensive and dangerous option we have. Always over budget and out of time - can’t say I’m unhappy to see the EA enforce nature protection rather than step aside for this man made disaster. We don’t need nuclear energy to achieve energy independence and 100% green on the grid. A delay to Hinkley matters very little in my view - the chances of it ever landing in 2030 were always slim.

The government must stop listening to and appeasing the small minority of halfwits, racists, and flag-shaggers who still support Brexit.
Brexit was a disaster and it’s time as a nation we accepted this fact.
And yet, Johnson and co did such a fine job hollowing out the UKs armed forces. In the 14yrs you were in power, we lost 50,000 frontline military personnel. Military ordnance was reduced to its lowest levels for over 40yrs? The number of serviceable naval ships were cut to their lowest number since the reign of Queen Victoria.
...........Give it a rest Tom
Honestly, the most annoying thing about being human right now is knowing we already have the intelligence and resources to end world hunger, fight climate change, and cure cancer BUT greed and billionaires keep millions suffering instead.
The wasted human potential is heartbreaking.
No doubt many planning to vote Reform believe they 'couldn't make things any worse.' That was the same false reasoning that lead many to vote for Brexit 10 years ago - one of my mates used those exact words. Well, Brexit made things worse & probably a Reform government would too.
Defence spending needs to be increased.
Agreed.
How about getting some of these millionaires to pay their f*cking taxes. Instead of sniping from the sidelines.
Lord Bamford.

Nadhim Zahawi.
All tax dodgers
People made a mistake believing the nutters were the climate activists and not those profiting from putting 100 million tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere every single day.
I think I remember a time when people disagreed over politics, but not over facts, or basic truths & lies. There was largely a shared body of knowledge, ignorance wasn't valued. That time has passed, the consequences are catastrophic; humanity is signing it's own death sentence.
Almost ten years on from Jo’s murder this platform spits death threats at me on a regular basis.
Many of these will be bots and weirdos, but it’s the platform that is facilitating, inciting and enabling this.
The platform owner will not address it - so the Government must.
The UK is spending £369m refurbishing Buckingham Palace for King Charles, who has £22bn and gets £500m more a year.
He can pay for his own renovations, £369m is more than England spends on building Social Housing in an entire year for the whole country.
