I fully get and respect that Zohran is trying to reclaim a usable American past, and think this is a smart thing for the left to do in general. But the idea that the Declaration was signed by "farmers" and not "managers of slave plantations" crosses over into distortion for me.
The effort to brand El-Sayed first as antisemitic and then, when that didn’t stick, as anti-woman is a good example of how identity politics is used to try and discipline the populist left.
“New York State bailed out New York City” is like saying you bailed out your roommate who pays 80% of the rent because he asked if you had a $20 on you
the organized american left was at its lowest point since its rebirth in 2016 right before this. Now it is stronger than ever in every metric and area in spite of immense repression. We owe any chance at a future to the bold actions of the Palestinian masses.
13 Democrats in Congress signed onto a pledge to “reject socialism” today. Combined, they’ve raked in a whopping $10,088,996 from the Israel lobby. Nothing moderate about that. Should we tally up their Big Tech donations next?
AOC: I actually think the more important advice that I would give would be to my incumbent colleagues, which is: you will create a self-fulfilling prophecy by deciding who these young women are before you’ve met them.
And if you are already panicking and sending little messages in your group chats about how these people need to be reined in, tamped down, and shown their place, you are creating the antagonistic dynamic that we do not need.
These are two young, talented, intelligent women who got elected against all odds, against millions of dollars. Perhaps there is something we can learn from them.
Remmeber: being FORCED to run independent is always much more unifying and agitating than the alternative. If the Democrats force DSA candidates to run independent , it would be a massive scandal for the right and propaganda victory for the left
Johnson: The DSA… this is their platform. They put this on paper!
Abolish the electoral college or replace the two-party system with a multi-party democracy, expand the House of Representatives, implement proportional representation and rank choice voting in all elections… End all military and economic aid to Israel, prosecute US and Israeli leaders responsible for the genocide in Gaza
This logic seems remiss from AOC 2028 discourse as well. The conversation seems to be dominated by disputes on whether she will be able to employ good governance rather than the downstream opportunities for socialism & the party surrogate that her executive position could provide
Zohran:
1) froze the rent
2) expanded childcare
3) balanced the budget
4) put belt to ass in the primaries
5) presided over declining crime
6) Knicks victory
Has there ever been a mayoralty with more aura?
“We’re using the Democratic Party as a ballot-access vehicle. We build our own organization, get elected under the Democratic label, caucus with Democrats when it’s useful, and push our own agenda. We see the Democratic establishment as an obstacle, not a home.” 🔥🔥🔥
To think, just this time last year Andrew Cuomo was preparing to run his second failed campaign on the bold vision that government can’t do anything to make your life better.
