#Turkey#Turkiye must stop dissolving associations as it pleases... the right of association is not a privilege granted to friends of those in power, it is a right that must be respected and especially protected for persecuted populations such as LGBTIQ people.
Hearing disturbing news about the Young LGBTI+ Association in Izmir’s dissolution on obscenity charges in a 1st court-ordered dissolution of an LGBT rights organisation in the last 25 years; I strongly urge the Turkish authorities to allow it to continue its peaceful HRD work @TC_BMCenevreDT
Front Line Defenders congratulates human rights defenders Bülent Şık from Turkey and Helena Maleno Garzón from Spain on being announced as the laureates of the seventeenth International Hrant Dink Award.
The International Hrant Dink Award is presented to individuals, organisations and groups that ''give inspiration and hope to people for holding on to their struggle, that work for a fair world free from discrimination, racism and violence, who take personal risks for achieving those ideals, who break the stereotypes and use the language of peace. ''
Both Bülent and Helena have made significant contributions to the protection of human rights in their respective contexts.
''Bülent Şık from Turkey plays an important role in providing public access to vital information by sharing about technical issues such as food safety in a clear and concise way; who demonstrates scientific integrity, an insistence on defending the public interest, and the courage to take risks; and who has a vision of information not as an instrument of power but as the shared right of society.
Helena Maleno Garzón from Spain has dedicated her life to making visible the invisible violence of borders and defending migrants’ right to life, and has worked courageously for years to make heard the voices of thousands struggling for survival on migration routes. ''

Hak savunucusu #EnesHocaoğulları bugün, 35 günlük tutukluluğun ardından tahliye edildi. 23 Şubat'ta görülecek bir sonraki duruşmada bu davanın beraatle sonuçlanmasını bekliyor, #Türkiye'deki hak savunucularına yönelik baskıların derhal sona ermesini talep ediyoruz.
The court ruled for the release of HRD Enes Hocaoğulları from pre-trial detention today, subject to monthly check-ins with the police.
He is on trial for exercising his freedom of speech and calling for international action against the human rights violations in Türkiye.
The next hearing will be held on 23 February. We strongly call on Turkish authorities to drop charges against him, as he is being targeted solely for his human rights work.
The judicial harassment of HRDs in Turkey must end.
🌈 Front Line Defenders stands in solidarity with HRD Enes Hocaoğulları, who will stand trial 8 September 2025 for exercising his freedom of expression at Ankara 86th Criminal Court of First Instance at 11.55AM local time.
We will follow the hearing closely, and expect to hear that the court decide for immediate release of Enes Hocaoğulları, and his acquittal.

I’ll be following closely the trial on Monday in Ankara of Turkish youth rights defender Enes Hocaoğulları, charged last month with spreading false news following his speech at the Council of Europe on Turkish police violence @TC_BMCenevreDT@coe
Hearing disturbing news that Turkish youth rights defender Enes Hocaoğulları was charged following his speech at the Council of Europe on Turkish police violence against peaceful demonstrators. His detention contradicts @CoE aims & international HR agreements @TC_BMCenevreDT
Hak savunucusu #eneshocaogullari'nın Avrupa Konseyi'nde yaptığı konuşma sebebiyle tutuklanmasını kınıyoruz. Enes'in derhal ve koşulsuz serbest bırakılmasını talep ediyor, #Türkiye insan hakları savunucularını yargısal tacizle sindirmeye çalışmak yerine korumalıdır!
This week marked 30 years since the creation of the Saturday Mothers movement @CmrtesiAnneleri, #Türkiye's longest standing peaceful protest. I am in awe of these steadfast HRDs who continue to seek truth & justice for victims of enforced disappearances.

Hearing disturbing news that Turkish WHRD Dr. Ayşe Uğurlu has again been dismissed from public service as a result of disciplinary action linked to public statements she made defending women’s rights in 2023. She may face criminal charges, all in contradiction with #Türkiye’s international human rights obligations @TC_BMCenevreDT
#Turkey Today, I want to pay a heartfelt tribute to the Saturday Mothers on their 30th anniversary.
For three decades, they have turned pain into dignity, gathering every Saturday since 1995 in Galatasaray Square to demand truth, justice, and reparation for their loved ones who disappeared in police custody in Turkey.
Despite violence, arrests, and being banned from occupying their space, they have never stopped raising their voices for truth, justice, and reparation.
Their strength, dignity, and perseverance deeply inspire me.
I stand with them — in remembrance, in struggle, and in hope.
Thank you, @CmrtesiAnneleri, for never giving up.

Front Line Defenders #Flotilla Koalisyonu'nun Gazze'de açlık çeken sivillere insani yardım taşıyan teknesine yapılan drone saldırıyı şiddetle kınıyor. Uluslararası hukuk ihlale edilerek hedef alınan hak savunucularıya dayanışıyor ve derhal bağımsız soruşturma talep ediyoruz
Front Line Defenders strongly condemns the drone attacks targeting the Freedom Flotilla Coalition’s boat, “The Conscience” at early hours of 2 May 2025, at the international waters off Malta.
The attack on a civilian and unarmed boat carrying humanitarian aid to the starving civilian population in Gaza is a blatant violation of international law.
We stand in solidarity with the human rights defenders who were targeted on board and call for a prompt and independent investigation into the attack.
