It's a rare to see a hare drinking like this🐇
They normally get their moisture from the vegetation that they eat, or from dew or rain.
But it's been so dry recently I've spotted one at the pond almost every day.

I take no credit for this awesome piece of work. A chap put this Swift box up at the top of his 3 storey house and one on his neighbours. Last year saw one pair nest, this year two pairs. All I did was turn up to ring them. And he wants to put more up in the village!

I've named her Rigel💫
Jean Thorpe of @ryedale_rehab and I rang barn owls' Celeste and Orion's chick yesterday - and as we did so I finally chose a name for this only owlet 🦉
The name was suggested by viewers on my YouTube livestream and is the name of the brightest star in the constellation Orion ✨

⚖️🩺Whilst fitting Rigel's @_BTO ID ring we also recorded her health (good) and weight (340g) - and confirmed she is a female♀️

I know this isn’t a great image, it’s never going to win a wildlife photography award. But I’m sharing it because it was so lovely to spend 10 minutes watching this little leveret - and sometimes, that’s the most important thing. It’s not about getting the perfect picture or the most ‘likes’. It’s about being out there in nature, appreciating everything, soaking up the sights and the sounds.

This young hare ran up and down the lane repeatedly, pausing occasionally and randomly to jump and twist in the air for seemingly no reason but sheer joy at being alive on that sunny morning. I knew how she felt.

It was a tiny few moments but it felt like such a thrill to watch, such a privilege.

I took this photograph only to remember the experience, and sometimes they’re the very best shots of all. 🥰
