@ncfrontiersman Writing apps as polished and featureful as iA Writer and Ulysses. Real MS Word for Track Changes that holds up to constant back and forth with an editor. The way iCloud seamlessly connects Notes, Reminders, and Calendar. Apps like MonitorControl and BetterDisplay.
@ncfrontiersman@dhh@Abhijit_091 Here in Houston, TX using Omarchy I am grateful for Omastorm. I am very...critical...of Omarchy and desktop Linux in general, but Omastorm is definitely one of those "hey it really does what it says it does, good stuff there" bits of software. Thank you for making and sharing it!
@StuckyDev@dhh Yeah, for some uses, only full desktop Office will work. And it would be great if we get that on Linux. The wording of the announcement doesn't make things as clear as I'd like. Maybe a me problem.
Another awakening. We're seeing a lot of AI accounts starting to come around, realizing things aren't going the way it was promised by those corporations.
If you ask an LLM to describe its vacation with its family in Italy, it will do so. It will happily explain what sort of practices it found helpful when lecturing at a university, or how it drafted contracts in the past, or what herbs it likes the taste of in that dish you are cooking.
(Some LLM systems have been extensively RLed out of doing this, but the fact that you have to do that in the first place is significant; by nature, they happily confabulate.)
An LLM’s supposed description of its internal states should thus be viewed with extreme suspicion, as should the motivations and rationality of anyone who takes such descriptions seriously.
The best part of the massive gamble that 9% of the US economy has to be LLM spending by 2032 to justify current investment is, for this scenario to come to pass, we will also have to see widescale, unprecedented and sudden unemployment. So it’s a win-win really
