One uncomfortable conversation Nigeria must have is responsible parenting and population discipline.
We cannot keep producing children into poverty, ignorance, hunger, poor schools, broken homes and hopelessness, then act surprised when society becomes full of angry, untrained and easily manipulated people.
A nation drowning in weaponised poverty will eventually produce weaponised ignorance.
And when ignorance becomes widespread, politicians, religious merchants, ethnic champions and corrupt elites will always find people to deceive, use, divide and control.
This is not about blaming poor people. It is about telling ourselves the truth.
The fewer children a family has, the better the chances of feeding them properly, educating them well, guiding their character, protecting their dignity and giving them a real chance in life.
Children should not be born only to become survival machines, political tools, street labour, religious statistics, or future slaves to the wealthy and powerful.
Nigeria needs serious family planning education, reproductive responsibility, better basic education, economic opportunity, and a cultural shift from “children are wealth” to “children deserve quality care.”
Having children should not only be about ability to give birth.
It should also be about ability to nurture, educate, protect and prepare them for a better life.
If we want to reduce the cycle of poverty, ignorance and manipulation, we must start from the home.
